It is my brothers last year showing in our county and we live in an all black haired world.  We were thinking it would be cool to have a hereford colored steer to run against the blacks with.  Show is not like a jackpot, called a market show.  It is the first week of May, needs to be 1250 Choice at this time.  We were in this weight range this year with a sunseeker steer and got third in class.  Grand and reserve were in our class ahead of us. Show is very big, biggest this side of Miss. River for three species.  Will go against about 140 other steers.  Also have a carcass contest after they our slaughtered.  We placed 4th overall in that this year so we can feed one right.  Winning the carcass contest gets you a working chute from the local farm supply, pay out for the sale of the calves is not very high.  Lucky to get about $1.30 on average champion maybe $3 to $4 a pound.  Can't spend a ton but want to try and win it with a hereford or apperaing calf.  No herefords were shown this past year.
Thanks

What do you consider to be "a ton"?

I know of a Hereford appearing Cyrus x Maine that looks pretty good in central IN.

If you PM me what you're wanting to spend I can let you know if he's in you're range or not.

I've got a march 20th steer. He's out of Moby (Mojo X Impulse X Angus) and out of a tank of a hereford cow. Asking $1000 if you pick up, can deliver for additional fee. He's super fancy and has a good hip and top in him.

Yeah a 2010 born calf.  Our check in is in November but we show feeders at county fair and state fair in August and October.  Our county fair has no fats, just everyones feeders for the May show.

Is the show just for your county or open to anyone? Where in Staunton is it held? I'm from Shenandoah County so I'd really be interested in a show that's close by like that!

It is just the county 4-H and FFA up to a senior in high school and that is it.  Not open to others.  It is about 10 times bigger than our county fair in August because everyone show at this and not the county fair.
