Anything new at your place or it the same old same thing as usual?

Here in my neck of the woods it's been raining as usual. Nothing has been done since Saturday. We actually had 2 days without rain but it's back again. Doubt if we'll get back in the fields any this week.
Finally feel we've gotten all the things, except my mixer, from the lightning strike. Love the new TV & the TVIO!
Had some great visits this week w/ board members!
Oh yes, Woody got a bath yesterday!

Anything new on your end?

We've been gettin some rain too, but we're not quite drowning....yet.  We had a couple more calves yesterday, a Perfect Timing and a Kryptonite.  We're really happy with all of our calves so far this year, and I hope we can find some kids that are serious about showing a steer...we have a super good one that is super calm.  Other than that, me and my dad just picked up my sister's first car today.  It's a 2005 Ford Mustang...quite a bit newer than my first truck, but we got a pretty good deal on it.  We're waiting to get back into the fields to plant beans...hopefully we dry out for a little bit.

I know all of you up north are tired of the rain, but in south texas we are in a major drought.  We had 1 1/2 inches of rain last night and it is wonderful!!  We are so dry it is awful.

We just took some cows to the market yesterday because of the dry conditions and losing a lease place.

I hope yall dry out soon.  Send the extra rain this way, it will be welcomed!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Stay safe!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Red.  I do know how you feel we had the wettest summer ever last year, it broke all kinds of records.  It was so frustrating you could not even walk across the pens without losing shoes, socks and whatever else.  You have a good evening!!!!!

Same ol here.    They planted some soybeans this week.  The weather people keep saying we are going to get rain but it keeps missing us.  We did get .25" one day last week and really needed it.    We could use a little more rain or we are going to be starting the irrigation up.  We hauled more cows to pasture today and will be working at that for the next few days as we get them all paired up.    They started chopping & bagging another field of alfalfa.

Our last calf came on Mother's day.. kind of unexpected too.    We had a group of heifers that we synched on MGA & Lutalyse and AI'd.  We had a pretty good synch too.    One heifer's tag got all folded over and hubby thought we just missed her cycle because we never saw her being ridden so we figured she'd just get caught by the clean up bull and we dumped them out on pasture.  She was a little baggie but the heifers are a little heavier this year so we didn't think a whole lot of it.    Well..Sunday morning we went out and found she had a little bitty heifer calf at her side.  OOPS..    Her birthdate is 2/4/07 - not sure who she was bred to because our bulls were pulled the first couple weeks of July...  AND, since we've had this problem before, we Lutelyse all the heifers at weaning.

NEW?  I'll say............Grass & Weeds...........lots of 'em.  I have only 47 acres, and for the past 20 years I've kept anywhere from 8 - 18 cows on this sparse, native grass, red clay place.  I haven't seen a blade of grass higher than 2" in more than 15years.  Right now it's 12" - 2' high anywhere you look; so thick and full of moisture that the Brush Mower can harldy cut it.  Now I know the gestation time of an overstocked piece of land............. 9 months of no cows.

my daughter has call ducks and they are like mini ducks and they are show ducks and are really pretty. They were locked in all winter and they were really sad about it so.....we let them out hoping that they wont run away. So they have stuck around for the past few months and the other day I noticed that the hen was missing...I thought "oh crap" and the male was running around quacking in a tizzy looking for his "wife" well long story shortened...she has a nest and I found her with 6 eggs so I hope that she hatches them out. Kandace my 2 year old  goes runing around teh house telling EVERONE (including the dogs)  *whisper voice*  "I have baby eggies!"

It's been raining here too. It's been muddy all spring because of the flood we had in March and the two ice storms in February.

I got my 2 new show heifers on Monday. They're awesome.  8)

It rained again today. :(  Nothing unusual about that.

Done calving getting ready to work cows and set up for breeding.  Started a bull for my son to take to the jr nationals.  By next year he should be able to do all of this himself.  Can't wait.  Maybe then my house work will start getting done again. :D  Got kicked twice this week. Once by the bull and once by the son's steer.  The bull kicked because I scared him.  The steer kicks just because he can.  He just  needs to get the last word in once in a while.

Forcast for the next 3 days, 90-94 Thursdar, 98-103 Friday, 90-92 Saturday. Red flag warning (high fire threat) Dry easterly winds. I would love to see some rain, we really have not had any since early March.
Also required to use 30 percent less water this year over last year. Got to love a challenge.

Wish we could send some of our moisture your way.  Of course Mother Nature will probably just dry us up too.  The old timers always say that here is Southern Missouri we are always two weeks away from a drought.

I hear that South Caroline is still very dry and from the looks of the news this morning so is alot of Florida.

We haven't been up to to much different.  Just put CIDR's in yesterday, we have turned into Davis Farms Shorthorn's and Rescue mission.  A buddy of mine needed a place to keep 4 of his heifers cause they were not being taken care of NEAR like they should have so we have those.  Then a week or so ago my roommate brings home this mini brahmin/Zebu looking thing????  He is almost 2 years old and only 480lbs.  He is now in the barn.  But other than that just finishing up finals one more to go tomorow.  Then it is summer break for me.  Atleast untill summer classes start in June.
