Anyone have any pictures of this bull? New to Semex

South American cattle could have a place here where I am!

I think mating him to stout DS carrier females might make some nice replacements.  I have the same concerns as you and am wondering how his progeny turn out.

I was keen on him due to what I thought would be easy calving, good width, moderate frame and good fats, if the South American cattle in general are anything to go by.
Semex quoted me a price which equated to about eight doses of semen per good/excellent weaner steer. Needles to say I declined, luckily, as the Spring 2019 TAI assessment yielded two suitable candidates out of 40 females assessed!
I managed to secure a 30% share in a very suitable bull here and landed 255 doses in my tank, including my share of the bull, collection and delivery over 1000km away, for less than the cost of 25 doses of Hector semen.
My only problems on him were colour, and the fact that he could do with a little more width in the second thigh area. I liked the short cannon bones and fleshiness in the dewlap area!
I've attached a few pictures below

I agree on the color! Not what we ar typically looking for but a good looking bull.  When do you expect calves?  What is the pedigree on him?

Digital Beef lists 21 calves,  11 with yearling weights.  His genomically enhanced EPD's show well above breed average for CE and BW but well below breed average of WW and YW.

I'm ashamed to admit that his sire's sire is WHR Collin FR53, aka "Razor"! XBAR is going to have a field day here!
His dam's sire's sire is Glengyron Dun R Enticer 18th from Australia, commonly known as "Bushranger" in the USA.
First lot of calves due January 15 and second lot February 17, 2021, mostly cows. One heifer due, as the Crooked Post Stockman 4Z I'd picked for the heifers yielded one empty dose, and it was too far to the office to fetch another in time. His breeder used him on heifers before selling him.
I'll unashamedly admit that I saw this bull once before, as a calf at foot, and bought him otherwise unseen, save for a few pictures. He has that easy fleshing look about him. I think his colour put a lot of commercial breeders off! Worked in my favour!

I wouldn't worry about that. He looks good. I love the way Collin is bred on the bottom side with Dazzler and Colleen.
Some people here in TN bought the US rights to Bushranger. They've got some pretty nice daughters of him.
The color doesn't bother me. If I wanted something solid colored and polled every time, then I would raise Angus.

Had you worried about that, maybe your Stars in the southern sky would have actually appealed to cattleman and it could have went on to be more than a one time flop.  Look what JSF has accomplished by utilizing pragmatic genetics.  With all the money behind Star Lake, had you had any skill in identifying and breeding functional beef cattle, you could be at the top of the game as they are.  Sullivan, Sarg, etc-- these guys are personalities.  It takes personality to sell something that lacks any intrinsic value.  So  its understandably why your sale results were so different, despite the fact that you use the same dysfunctional genetics.

Hey bud- if you like the bull then that's what its about.  You know the bloodlines well enough to know what to expect.  Provided your expectations are consistent with how the pedigree has historically performed then youre in a fine position. The only times you see me speak up are when particular genetics are promoted as something they're not.  The bull looks put together well- nice heavy constructed build-- the light colored hooves typically not too favorable in as harsh of an environment as yours appears to be but only time will tell there.

Bahaha, You so funny. Do you really think I care what you think about what cattle I choose. If you are that worried about it, it was 2 sales not 1. As far as not having any more sales the owner decided to do something besides run registered cattle. Still running the Shorthorn base with Angus bulls. Once again, like I have said time after time raise what works for you and what you can sell. We had 2 pretty decent sales, but anyone in the purebred industry will tell you it takes at least 3 years to get a sale established. I am glad to see that you are so concerned what we have done up here in TN. Oh and by the way, it is Springlake. Star Lake is a Hereford outfit in OK if I'm not mistaken.  But I do appreciate the input, I'll keep that in mind for the future.
