This is a 3 week tour of Angus, Hereford, Murray Grey and Shorthorn herds that extends from New York to Montana. We can be proud that the Cooksley's at Haumont and Ralph Larson at  Y Lazy Y were selected to represent Shorthorns to these gentlemen studying low input sustainable genetic resources in the USA.

Participantes:
Juan Martín Narbaitz, DVM.  Principal of Centro Argentino de Biogtecnología Animal (CABA): http://www.centrocaba.com.ar  where a stud of 60 bulls of different beef breeds are maintained.  CABA also provides on-site and mobile embryo transplant services.  CABA provides the same services for the Equine Industry and is starting to expand in to ovine breeding.  Martin owns a registered herd of Scotch-origin Aberdeen Angus, as well as other non-Scotch origins.  About 500 cows total, selling about 40 bulls per year.

Dimo Narbaitz Sarsur, DVM.  Martin’s son who raises registered Shorthorns.

Alejandro Elorriaga, DVM, professor at local ag tech school and Martin’s partner.  Race horse and commercial cattle breeder (600 Angus and Polled Herefords).  Some registered Angus cattle.

Carlos Pérez, DVM.  Works with numerous seedstock operations of different cattle breeds, but primarily with Angus and Polled Hereford breeders.  Owns a 1,000 head commercial herd, with some registered Angus.

With the 1st cutting of hay in the stack, I have finally had a little time to look around on SP and noticed this topic. It was a pleasure to meet these Veterinarians from Argentina. Communication wasn't too easy, but "Dimo" spoke pretty fluent English, even though to my later embarrassment, I called him Martin ("Marteen") during the entire short visit! I'm ashamed to say that I'm not great with names in any situation. For some reason, I got Dimo and Martin (son and father) mixed up! It is always fun to have visitors, and I think they enjoyed seeing the cattle. They prefer smaller frame score cattle than they found here, but they all seemed to like the overall type and kind. Dimo said that frame 4 cattle suit their environment best. In any regard, it was an enjoyable afternoon!

Martin seemed to find this Coalpit Creek Leader 6th son interesting. Especially after seeing his dam.

After looking over the cattle, we couldn't allow them to leave on an empty stomach so we served them these grass fed Montana Shorthorn steaks that were VERY well received! They liked the small flecks of fat evenly dispersed throughout the meat. If I say so myself, they are very tender and flavorful. I was saving two packages for a special occasion and am glad I did! Thank you Gentlemen for honoring us with a visit!

My mouth waters when I see steaks like that!
Grass-fed, the flavour must have been amazing. <party>
