What is the payout on this show? I seen the biggest classes had 9 in it; most are around 4-5 in them.

ive always wondered why this show doesn't attract more people. while the rest of the country is buried in snow we were walking around in shirt sleeves. The weather was beutiful the facilities are nice and it just seems like a fun little show.

The sale is decent for the az people, the out of state guys take a hickey, especially after the deal of  3 years back.  Then they decided all the fitters had to be gone, so not a lot of people care to go.

2 steers in a row wouldn't blood type to their supposedly nomination form.  Last one had hair from "the right steer" and another one to try and fool the DNA. Then the exhibitor donated 1/2 the money back to the show, hang up was show president, a big buddy, passed so the wheels didn't get greased.
Got caught, 3 year ban on showing, reliable rumor says they will never ever show there again.
Lot of jocks were using it as a open steer show, so fitters have to be family,
Steers must be in jr barn, a some what disorganized place, only thing is steers are classed by hip height, so all classes are fairly uniform.  A lot of the steers once came out of California, but economy there has side tracked it some,

I see fitters in both of those pics of the champs that are not family of the kids showing.  Not trying to raise a stink, but just about every show in the nation says that fitting can only be done by family, ag teachers, or extension agents. I dont know of one show that actually enforces that rule, they would have to require birth certificates and court documents on everyone there to prove that I am not the kids step brother, uncle, step-dad something like that.  It is a practically impossible rule to enforce.  I think the biggest downfall to this show is the time frame. As was said earlier a lot of people would have to travel on Christmas, there is also the fact that a lot of people are gearing up for Denver and then Ft Worth is immediately after and people just dont want to be gone that long.  It is a fun little show though!

I don't know about the grand, but the reserve kid's name is Drager and I believe his daddy (or uncle) knows a little about showing and fitting.  I guess in that case he's not a paid fitter unless his kid (or nephew) is having to shell out some cash for pops.

I would have to agree, the Drager's have raised a few and fitted even a few more good ones. Both calves look like great.

That page will lead you to all of the results, including the sale prices on grands and reserves and averages by species.

I can't get the rules to come up now, but I did read through them fairly well because we were planning on going (had a steer and a couple of goats entered, but everybody in our house got sick the week before).  I don't recall seeing any rules about fitters... But then again I might not've payed much attention since it would've just been us anyway.

The Grand steer was raised by Brandon Bird. I'm not sure what he was out of.  We showed against him all year in the Simis at prospect shows in Texas. I don't know anything about the Arizona National, but that wasn't the best steer they drag by a long shot.

Just to clarify I wasnt trying to say anything bad about the families.  I know the Drager's know their way around the fitting rack pretty well, Blissards arent to shabby themselves.  I realize those families were probably right there elbow deep in the preperation, but even the best often hire extra help for the big shows, most of which have rules saying that fitting/showday preparation is to be done by the exhibitor, immediate family, ag teachers, or extension agents only.  A rule that hardly ever gets enforced or is very easy to enforce.  Just saying I dont thing that rule deters many.  Both are pretty good steers, but I agree with Chambero, Myka has much better steers in the barn.  I assume we will see those at Ft Worth, San Antonio, and Houston.
