No experience here but always thought they had worlds of potential especially for outcross genetics. Some of them have a really deep rib and look to be laid in nicely at the shoulders. They also look to be athletic.

Aren't they from a semi-arid part of France? Might have something to do with their toughness and ruggedness.

The Aubrac is one of a group of breeds in eastern and southern France that are regarded as 'rustic.  They are closely related to breeds such as the Tarentaise, Parthenaise, and Gasconne.  All these brreds are red coated and black tipped except for the Gasconne which is gray with black tips.  The Aubrac was a dual purpose breed with infusions of Braunvieh on the base stock.  They could not make it as a dairy breed like the Tarentaise abd is now a sucker breed on the pastures of the south central massif.  60% of this breeds cows are bred to Charolais bulls to produce market calves.
The breed has a large number of double muscled animals and these are not recommended for North American ranchers not used to C-sectioning cows.  The breed looks like a heavier, meatier Tarentaise.
