Here's three pics I found that I thought might be of interest to Shorty breeders.

The first is a two year old son of TG Kookaburra, who a few people on here have used. He was bound for the Dubbo National sale but sold privately beforehand to a commercial producer as a result of an offer that couldn't be refused.

The second is a Belmore sire, Fuel Injected V12, who has also been used in the Durham project. He is also the sire of the 2005 national champion, Ipswich Y189. V12 left a tremendous, even line of females, as well as bulls.

The third is a cow by the name of Trevino Patsy 144th. She is one of the breed's true matrons. She had 7 calves - all bulls - and 5 went on to be top sires (one has been marketed by Semex). The other 2 sold to commercial producers. She's interesting in that her EBVs put her well below average for both birthweight and growth, however all her sons have had high growth, good calving ease and tremendous carcase traits. This is helped in part by some of their powerful sires, however each son has bred similar animals which haven't lacked any performance. Have a look at her figures and you'll see what I mean... http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5C255B5B2421232322&9=50595D59

I'll see what other pics I can find.

I saw some pretty awesome Fuel Injected V12 calves in Scotland. I remember us driving into a pasture at Fearn Shorthorns and the first two calves I saw were both Fuel Injected bull calves. They were the best calves ( IMO) that I saw in Scotland.

Last time Major Gibb was out, he was telling us how pleased he was with the V12 calves. He was responsible for importing the bull to Scotland, and couldn't speak highly enough of the bulls impact there.

IMO, V12 is a pretty predictable sire.

I see that Belmore Fuel Injected is by Marallen Vagabond. When Vagabond semen was brought to the US I thought he looked like a pretty exciting bull. I know Aldens used him but not sure of his calves records. Is he still available in the US?
Also do you have any photos or info on MARELLAN ESKHATOS?

I have Humdinger and Indestructible, I'll see if I can find Eskhatos.
Vagabond was a tremendous sire. I remember going thru the semen tank one day and we founf a few straws left from him, only put one in and I'm pretty sure the cow didn't take. Not sure if Andy used the remainder or not.

Marellan Hum Dinger is on top. He's by JR Legend out of a Waukar Prime Minister cow. His link http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5C255B5A24202F2E25&9=5F525159

Marellan Indestructible, the roan, is yet another son of Theodore from a Weebollabolla Quasimoto cow. http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5C255B5A2258242426&9=5F525158

Both are touted as heifer bulls. I used Hum Dinger on a heifer but unfortunately she didn't take.

I just received the Semex beef sires catalogue and they have Belmore Hammersley listed and he is out Trevino Patsy 144th, the cow pictured above. What can you tell us about Hammersley!

That's correct!! Hamersley has done a pretty good job, he certainly hasn't done anyone any harm. What would you like to know about him?
He's been used on heifers with no problems (that I'm aware of), and the calves are full of growth. The first year we sold bulls by him, one was top price at Naracoorte, and another sold to The Grove and has done a fantastic job up there for them, producing numerous champions and high sellers. When Hamersley was a yearling, he was joined to 20 heifers and got them all in calf.... then got pulled out of the heifers and 2 weeks later, was senior champion at the Royal Adelaide Show.

Here are a Hamersley bull and heifer in the drought. The heifer was retained as a breeder, the bull sold for $7000.
The last pic is at Naracoorte sale, the 2 bulls on the left are each by Hamersley. The red bull went to The Grove, the dark roan was equal top price.
I will try and find some more pics later.

Here is Hamersley himself. I'll try and find his show pic, where he's actually standing up properly!!

Hey TDU, What are your thoughts on Moombi Powerplay? I have one coming this next year. I always thought on the ones that I've seen that he added some thickness & maybe a touch of frame.

No I haven't myself. But he seems to have done a good job from the few calves I've seen by him. He's mainly been used in the one herd, and they seem to have a lot of females from him but I haven't seen a whole heap of bulls about the place. Having said that, he seems to pop up on quite a few bulls dam's side now, so I'd guess he must be a reasonable cow maker.

Here's a heifer by him.
