I am wanting to install a barn camera(s) in my calving and lambing pens that I can hopefully link to my laptop so that when I am gone during the day I can still check the progress. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for me?
After losing a good heifer last year I swore I wouldn't go another year without having a camera. I travel alot with my job and it's easy to pop my laptop open while driving down the road with wireless and check in on the girls.
Thanks in advance for any advice....

Maybe you have thought of this:

Bow and rifle hunters have cameras set up around blinds? Just a thought - seems like most are wireless.

I'm going to have a blog post on Cattle.com about how to set this up on Friday...

It cost us about $600 including the equipment for a 1/4 mile wireless network jump (the system was a woot a couple months ago).  It has eight cameras that all have a limited infrared capability for nightime viewing, we just haven't setup the other three yet.  You can view it from a local network or anywhere via a remote computer running IE or your cell phone.

I wish I could have done a video screen grab of that.  It's a commercial Brangus cow that's about to pop and she walked across all five cameras in about a 20-second window.

Jeff:

Do your cameras move?

We put in a system a little over a year ago that is somewhat similar but is based on one movable camera. However, it cost a lot more than that.

No, they don't move but installing one moveable/higher quality camera in a stratetic location is on the list for later this fall.  Except for the networking part, all we've used so far was the stuff that came in a $300 woot from August.

This would prolly be super expensive but I saw a commercial a few times. I think ADT security has a system where you can have a camera and look at it on a computer. I would say for a large distance away that would be one of a few choices
