We put a set in it is the only type walmart carries they were on sale for 200 down from 300 they are amazing they are good up to 500 feet which is perfect for us and it cam with 2 cameras and a screen to watch it on.Has made it alot easier especially in the snow. Check there website.

How about on EBAY? Any listed there that you could help with. There is such a myriad of styles, types, and prices, it is confusing.
What type/kind do you need? What distance can the cameras reach, for your house to be from the barn where you are going to place the cameras on "normal" systems?
Can you really see the cows inside the barn at night with your barn lights on or do you get to much "glare" from your barn lights?
Can you buy cameras that turn or pivot some way so you can either (1) turn them with a remote or (2) they "pan" back and forth on their own?

More money you spend the more distance. Ours can zoom and rotate as we want and has night viion which is awesome.

I too have been looking at a camera system for my calving barn which is only about 250ft from my house. I have been throwing around the idea of putting a wired camera system in, just don't know if I want to run a trench this summer for running the wires. Rite now I do it the old fashion way by getting up through out the night and checking on cows/heifers that are close to calving. But if I can put a monitor in my bedroom, then I can just wake up every so often and look at the monitor. For the wireless camera systems, do the cameras and transmitters have batteries or do they run off electricity in the barn as I don't have that barn wired up yet which I was planning on doing this summer which I will have to trench out to the barn anyways for running electricity out there. Was just wondering if I needed electricity out in the barn to run a camera system. Thanks for any help.

We have had cameras for ten years. I have four that can be set on one or rotate between all four. The big thing in the wireless is not so much the distance, but what the signal has to go through. Steel barn, trees, other buildings, walls in the house make a big difference. The distance what they advertise is straight with no obstructions. They work off of batteries or electric. But use electricity, batteries don't last long. I also use the cameras on the cow yard after calving to watch for heats. Our TV has the built in VCR so I can put a tape in and record for 6 hours. Fast forward to see if any one was active. Currently hooking up to the web so we can log on the smart phone and check things out any where we are. www.barncam.com has some good cameras. We have about $700 stuck into ours. Save one calf and it is paid for, and that's not saying nothing about turning on the remote and not even getting out from under the covers.

It seems great and I can watch from work or even on a mobile connection. It is a fixed camera and no audio. But it does have night vision. For $104.95 to my door step it seemed like a good way to get started. The other systems do seem to offer a lot more but I'm not sure yet if or what more I need.

We are trying to do this in our barn right now too! But we would like ones that can be viewed online/smart phones so that any of us can check them at all times. Anyone have a set up like that??

They have 4 outdoor use models. #904 @ $95.95, needs supplemental lighting but has a much wider view, and #905 @ $105.95 narrower view, but has it's own source of light for night time. The two other models are quite a bit more money (did not price), they have allot of memory for viewing recorded video later. All come with antenna and mounting bracket in package/box/price.
Negatives for use in barn.

2. Must be "Hooked-Up" to computer and internet and router. Can NOT be hooked up to television or plain monitor.
3. Needs 110 electric for camera.
4. Fixed Camera, none pan nor remotely move side-to-side or up-and-down.
These do all I want except, I want to just Hook-Up to a television monitor in my bedroom for at night. My computer is not in my bedroom. Plus my barn is approx 500 feet from my house.

Recieved the Uniden system for x-mas from my wonderful daughter and love it. She got it at walmart on black friday on sale. We them ordered 2 more cameras from amazon. Together probably not more than 400 bucks. Wireles is the only way to go, mine goes through two barns and the house and still looks good at 300 ft. Audio is a big plus.
Went to town Saturday to buy a camera after reading these posts and spending hours looking up info on the "Net" about barn cameras and systems.
First I went to Verizon, and bought a MI-FI system, thought just maybe they would have the cameras there and I could do a one-stop-shop, right?...nope nothing at all in surveillance cameras. They sent me to Best Buy.
I thought sure I would find a wide assortment of cameras and surveillance equipment there, plus some "Geek Squad" support/help. NONE THERE!! All I found was uninformed, non-trained, staff. I was told to go on line as they have many cameras on their website (I checked when I got home and it was true, but of no real hep to me, as if I wanted to purchase on line, I could have done that earlier without going to town), however, going on line to their website gave me no "LIVE" tech support and nothing to buy-take home-and install this weekend. Just a bunch of GEEKS!
Then I went to Shudder, Walmart. (I knew in my mind that this was going to be bad. But I ventured on anyway). The only thing I found at Walmart, was WALMARTIANS! Well, by now it was Saturday night and they were out on the prowl. The guy in the electronics department said to try Sam's Club, he thought they had them. As I walked away from the Electronics Department, thinking to myself...I don't even belong to Sam's Club! I've had enough. This is BS. So, I took my poor, hapless, wife (who I had drug along on this "Snipe Hunt") to Logan's Steak House. I felt like Mike in Livestock Plus. I had a Sirloin smothered in sauteed onions and mushrooms, potato, a nice salad, hot rolls a couple of 22oz Coors Light Drafts, to help calm me down. Not sure what my better half had, or the waiter's name. But I'd go back. So the next time your in...wait a minute, I digress. This was the best part of the whole "Snipe Hunt'. So, then I headed home, went out to the barn and checked the cows "the old fashioned way", six more days until the first one is due (locked up nine a week ago).
Now back to the HUNT...

Dude if you have the internet go right to unidens site or try amazon. They'll ship and you'll have it brfore you calve. As for tech support if you can plug the camera into the wall socket you'll have it mastered.SEA said:

There are so many models to look at, if you want to walk way with one from a local store, my best buy and walmart have similar knowledge and inventory (none). My local Staples had a D-link setup in the back of the store. I have purchased a few IP cameras over the years, all of them on the low end $100-400. They work, have worked inside a barn for calving season, then I take them down and put them in my office until next year except one that is in an outdoor enclosure. Good luck on your search!
ps - it appears you have a very patient spouse, treat her well.
