Did some research on here but was wondering what everyone is using now since they seem to be pretty popular.  I need only one maybe 2 cameras that can be watched from the computer.  Anyone know what that might cost and where I could get that?  I plan on calling a few places but they're just going to try to sell me things so I figured asking on here would be better.

I am at the cheap end.  I found a couple of panasonic Ip cameras (model bl-c10) for $99 on clearance at best buy, then a software program for the desktop/notebook/ipod and android phone called mobiscope ($20).  It works for me, but again is a low end way to go, it is a wired IP camera.

Even on the low end, i really would hate to be without them.  I just peak at the ipod next to my bed at 4am, don't have to go on a walk-a-bout at -30 degrees.  Or watch and see if the heifer is doing anything before we open the door to the barn and bother her. Also the whole idea of letting my wife watch one a couple times during breaks at work while I am gone on an errand, without leaving her computer!

A friend of ours owns a computer repair/website design/IT company.  He helped us go a similar route for under $300.

I know a few horse folks who use a pretty high dollar camera in their stalls and in their trailer.  I think they have over $1,000 in theirs and I can't tell the difference myself.

Different cameras will off different ranges, but we just had to do some tweaking to get our camera position just right where we could see the entire stall.  Also have one that we can see a large turnout pen too.

Good luck, I think you will find yourself tuning into the barn like coming to check out whats new on Steer Planet!

He bought everything for us.  He buys a lot of stuff online, I will ask him tomorrow and let you know where they came from.

WBar,

Here is a link to the system we purchased.  He bought everything for us and set it up for less than $300, but we could have probably done it ourselves.  Only maintenance we have done (hope we're not supposed to do more...) is make sure cameras stay clean.  About once a month I reach up and wipe the front off and go on my way.  Nothing to it.  Hope this helps, best of luck!

Two are night vision.  Need an internet connection at your barn to view from computer but yes you can fix it to watch from a tv or a computer.  It can be viewed live or playback.

Most phone companies can set you up a connection at your barn pretty inexpensive if you have power to it.

Dangit that probably wouldn't for that reason.  Theres no power so it would have to be wireless.

Might still work, if they can run a line to it.  But it does need power to run the cameras and the recording unit or whatever you call it.
