thank you steernc for reading my post and seeing that it said you dont have to get it all at once.  <beer> im glad we have observant people on here  (thumbsup) (no offense to you if you wearnt one of the ones who quoted it "black cows').

Ur 15k guesstimate was still a little over the top. And Just because someone hauls a 100k trailer with a 90k truck doesn't mean theyre doin it right. All that says is i have a lot of money, and more than likely i pay someone who knows what theyre doin to take care of my calves. Teaches the kids nothing, the real future of agriculture is the kids who do it because they love it, not to buy a purple banner. JMO

You can start off fairly cheap i know i did. i didn't buy my first calf i won her with a Houston scramble certificate i won judging dairy cattle, but once i got addicted to showing and wanted to become more competitive is when it starts to get pricey. I got my first blower for free from my neighbors whose son stopped showing and also some combs. I feel that a blower is one of the nearly must haves, it gets used everyday and makes your life a lot easier.

Some more advice from my experiences, start off being inexpensive borowing stuff that you may need search for good deals on things. That way youll know that showing is something you want to sink money into, because lots of people think they want to show and buy the stuff they need only to find out that they arent able to commit the time and effort into the calves to be competitive and justify all the money spent. Im not diecting this at you or anyone in general just talking from experiences that ive witnessed.

well i got the certificate for the calf so $1250 school hauled my animal so i didnt have a truck or trailer. At the end of the show season i had about $2000 in her counting feed show supplies and metal and tin i used to build a shade. I kept her outside in a pen made of corral panels since the schools barn wasnt finished and she was only under fans in summer and those were cheapo walmart box fans.

but how much did you pay in the first year of showing?
Speaking from experience and being a guy who likes to know were the money went you can show with some what of a budget.  You will need the essentials a scotch comb, rice root brush, water hose, clean pen (with room to move), in the summer a fan is important but you can survive without one, a couple cans of show supplies( which who ever is giving you guidance may help you with what you need) clippers if you are going to try and clip yourself ( i would recommend Andi's 2 speeds with a blocking blade)  and about 2 ton of feed to feed a hiefer and closer to three to feed a steer.  As you become more involved you can get the fans, show boxes, and other supplies.  I would want to purchase a blower as my first investment in supplies.  Try not to let it overwhelm you or your parents.  It will cost but probably not much more than being involved in other school activities.
