Believe in Me or Walks Alone

We have used Walks Alone for two years. Had good ones from him with our cows. I am considering using Believe in Me. I know they are brothers, but wanted to know the differences in their calves? Anything major? Especially when the steers are finished out.

If you like them coarser you'll like walks alone if you like them pretty you'll like believe in me

Walks Alone = POWER and alot of it. Depends what your cows need

Never used Believe in Me but I can speak for using Walks Alone.  He has really worked well on my maternally based SimXAngus cows.  I have sold several steers that have done well.  Also, have six of his daughters in production that are doing a good job.  One raised a class winner at Houston this year.  He makes them pretty, stout and they feed good.

Calves out of both seem to be equally as batshit crazy we have fed one out of each bull- take that back had to end up putting a bullet in the bim

I agree that the BIM's are quite a little prettier.

The Walks Alone steers that we have fed or followed seem to grow into all of the coarse features when they are fat.

Our Walks Alone experience has been not so good in terms of attitude.  The steer was pretty much nuts, but we indeed did get him showed a few tiimes.  He didn't "technically" hospitalize anyone.

Our BIM steer this year??.....jury is still out.  We haven't got him showed yet!

None of them have been what I would call mean.  They just don't want to be show cattle, and they are not above kicking the heck out of you for no apparent reason.

Ours seem to follow the attitude of the cow, but are definitely more on edge.  Not mean, but can be spooky.  They just have panic attacks in new situations, like shows.  Almost never have a problem with them at home, but take them to town and they get overwhelmed and have a panic attack.  We have a Walks Alone x commercial angus heifer that we showed twice and it was a wrestling match every time.  She has a month old calf now and is doing a good job with that.  Can walk up and catch her in the pasture with a halter without bait (bucket with grain).  Just don't take her off the place and she is fine.

I will say I am sorry if I offend anyone first off, but it's just the truth of our fam's situation. We found a Walks a couple years back we thought was a contender. He was such a pain in the ass, kick, swing, kick again, tail beating, kick a third time, cool LOOKING dude, my oldest daughter never wanted to show again, and didn't. True story. So, will I breed to that bloodline, ever? Will we ever consider a show calf from that bloodline? Even if they walk on water? NO! I know, and we have been told we had a bad apple, we won't give it a chance to happen again.

BIMs have a little more potential to be real good.  They tend to have more grow and will wait to finish at the 1350+ mark.  Walks Alone calves tend to be "piecey".

I've had around 20 of them.  Heifers actually seem to be pretty gentle.  Only had one WA steer in the "batshit crazy" category.  My son still has a rope burn scar across the top of his hand 2 yrs later.  Never had a truly gentle one.  Branded one WA steer at FW year before last.

We had a Walks Alone out of MA x Ang comm cow we bought from South Dakota. she was fine on the trailer ride. She was fine with the other calves. But as soon as she was haltered and in open terrain put your water skies on you were going for a ride. tried two very large men with two halters one down rolled other little road rashed and embarassed.  They seem to be nervous cattle. In the chute she was one that you had to be on your toes or her toe was on you usually lighting fast. so, maybe it was our one bad apple too. Walks Alone calves to me seem more extreme in their make up.
We did get her to final show as a market heifer. She kicked judge as soon as he touched her from behind. Dressed better than any calf we had ever fed. Was packed full of red meat. Meat was awesome.

Sounds like many people have had behavior issues. Our Walks Alone calves are not the most gentle we have, but only one that has been an issue. My original question was how the finished steers would compare out of WA and BIM. We have not calved out any WA heifers yet, but sounds like they are ok mothers? We have thought of WA and BIM (if we use him) as terminal bulls, not good cow makers.

I bred WA to a big maternal pb simmi 2nite.  I used BIM on some big pb angus last year and they are standouts in the pasture.
