What is the best smoke, orange or yellow bull to add middle to a yellow jacket female? Thought of monopoly but not sure how he will breed to make smokes? Thought of solid gold but not sure of softness in the middle. Cow is a Yellow Jacket X MA/AN smoke. What do you guys think? Thanks

Wouldn't be scared to try man among boys. Texas twister was a train wreck structurally on that front end in Denver. I'm sure some people will say Troubador but he won't give you enough middle, alias won't give you that style needed for today. Uno mas might not be a bad choice. Milkman will make them too big especially with your cow being a YJ. What about that new Smokin bob bull?

he is new this year, but try Guilt Trip from Trausch,  Eye Candy x Char that we raised,  he has always had lots of middle,  good smoke color and very loose structured.  pics of him at Denver and as a baby calf

whats the best proven smoke bull?

Solid gold is working on his second calf crop of fat steers,He's won grand and reserve at Houston, and grand and reserve at Angelo last year along with champion at San Antonio last year and this year, and Houston hasn't even came around yet

So age wise he is unproven. Record wise in texas he's the most proven bull going

Look at the Monopoly son... Smoke And Mirrors

Since she's a YJ she probably needs to be cleaned up a little up front.  He should do that as well.

I've always really liked the Muddy Water bull, but in the original post they asked for a orange or yellow bull to make smokes. I assume that they are worried about the diluter gene and getting rat tail calves. Muleman do you need an orange or yellow colored bull?

Cab, the heifer I have is a true smoke from a  Yellow Jacket x MA/AN cow. Just want to increase chances of getting smokie or colored calves. I know Monoply will work well with her but not quite sure on smokie chances or %. Your thoughts?? As long as Solid Gold will add guts and not any frame he will work. Again I know Monoply will work just not sure on color issue and rat tails. Steve

Yellowjacket females are really just now hitting prime production years (3+ calves out of one). So nobody really knows what consistently works.

The Texas Twister x Yellowjacket combination hit a home run on probably the one cow it was tried on last year for Kris Black.  In addition to the three calves being very high sellers, one placed at Fort Worth, another was second or third in a very tough Charolais class at San Antonio, and I think the third one was Champion Simi at San Antonio.  I bet a bunch of YJs got bred to him last fall.

I have one really good YJ female, but Troubador did not work real well on her first calf.  Calf was very, very stout in the end, but was impossible to get fat enough to win down here at our majors.

I'm breeding mine Monopoly next fall.  If you get a black one, chances are it will be a real good one if your cow is good.  If you get color, even better.

If you want a colored bull, I'd probably go either Texas Twister or Man Amongst Boys.  The MAB is just a guess, but I bet he'd soften one.  I do not think most Charolais or Charolais-x bulls will soften up a YJ enough.  She'll give you all the muscle you need, you just need the pretty and softness somewhere from the Heat Wave line.
