I know pictures aren't 3 dimensional, but this is the biggest butted calf we have ever had, I don't know if you can get the full effect, but it is incredible!

That is an amazing calf! What is it sired by? and what was the dam's breeding? You better be keeping this guy in the spare bedroom, and fixing some gourmet meals for him.
I have found that real good ones look real good as babies. I think this guy will do the same. I have attached a picture of an ET Shorthorn calf I had three years ago.  He is 4 days old in this picture. He also had a big butt, and he still had it when he got older. I am not trying to steal your thread here, just thought you might want to see another big butt! Good luck with your calf!

Wow Jill, if this one can put it all together and keep it there, looks to be very good. How old in the pic? Bull or heifer? It will be fun to see in about a month. Good luck. Brent

I ha one today that was thick topped he was about 1 hour or less old and his top was quite a bit wider than my hand was stretched out and he had the butt to go with it problem is he is out of a no name herd bull simmi no papers  we got and a sim-angus cow so nobody will want to look at him because he has no name to drop for a sire

Sorry, I didn’t realize I was keeping you all in suspense, had to get chores done before I could come in and play.  Here is a picture of him, he doesn’t stand still very long, he likes to play so it’s really hard to get a good one, he’s a little stretched, but it was the best one.
First of all, he is a bull, his BW was 102 and he was born on Sunday, but no, he has some in him, but he’s not a Heat Wave.
He has a really different breeding combo; we raised both the sire and dam:
Dam is a Goldette (Maine) X Heat Wave
Sire is our Black Dice donor X to Anchor
The Black Dice donor is the dam of the champion 2002 Belt Buckle, OKC and the National Jr. Maine Steer Show both shows, also the 2005 Reserve Champion National Jr. Maine Steer Show and Champion Bred and Owned, we decided to flush her to Anchor trying to get some really maternal heifers to keep back in herd, what we got was a bull and decided to keep him for limited use in herd for the lines that aren’t out of her, honest to goodness he looks like an Angus bull.  We only bred him to 2 cows last year so I guess we really won’t get a good test on him till next year, can’t wait to see what the other one looks like.
SD- to answer your walking question, we really haven’t ever had a cripple here so being able to walk isn’t a really big concern for us, he does have some swelling down in the front pastern area, but I think that is just from the chains, time will tell.
Gidget- lol, Earl said last night it was going to look odd to have a post that reads Big
Butt Jill, but if you’d like, I can sure dig up some!

Jill I really like that photo. On the walking thing it just seems every time I see a big butted one it ends up not walking worth a hoot. But he looks like he could have a long stride. And he sure isn't pinched any where. This little guy has room to grow.

Have you decided if you'll show him as a bull or steer?

Perfect Stumpy. I have to agree. It'll be awhile B4 we see another wider based nicer butted calf. Good work Jill/Earl. Brent
