I have three heifers to breed next spring, MAB, Meyer/Angus and Get It Done daughter, and wondered about these Angus bulls.  I originally was thinking No Worries or another calving ease clubby type.  I know what some of you are thinking, "There is no such thing - calving ease clubby.".  But there are some with low birth weights.  Bismark has worked well with simi influence, but didn't know about clubby bred heifers.  I like the looks of Brilliance.  The MAB needs a little more frame and growth on her, so I need to go with more growth on her.

I'm also thinking about sexed semen.  ABS has Brilliance sexed.  Any idea what the price might be?

Top Sires has a bunch of sexed semen, most of it reasonable.  They have sexed Bismark.

Depending on the demand for a bull and semen inventory, ABS, Genex, etc. will usually have a spring special where you can get semen for about the same or a little less than conventional semen. But like I said, it depends on the bull. However, since we are talking about making breeding heifers I think you're better off just getting sexed semen on the bull that you think will work best, not just one that is on special. Usually to get sexed semen on a bull through one of these companies it usually costs 50 dollars (or less) above the conventional price, which in the grand scheme of things isn't much for a couple heifers.

My vote would be for Bismarck from experience.  Bismarck makes really nice females that grow and milk like troopers.  We've used both conventional and sexed female semen from him.  The cost between both is very small.

Nothing against Brilliance, we've never used him.  He is one of many promoted bulls out there now with Bismarck either as his sire or maternal sire.

We've also used sexed Right Answer on our Boardwalk, Eye Candy, and Monopoly heifers with success.

I saw a really good Bismark x Get It Done April heifer the other day.  She had the prettiest, long neck coming out the top of her shoulder and she had depth and rib, and good bone and hair as well.  Just a good angular maternal little gal.
