I was hoping we could do some negotiating with the Americans and I thought we should start on the high side to give us a little room to negotiate down if need be. The only " for certains" I know in these negotations is that all potential deals will be aborted if the US tries to include Oprah or Obama in the trade.

Why not just ask zero, he's more than happy to give stuff away for "free". 

But if you're going to release Justin Bieber on us, it is only fair that you take one of em. 

And we already tried the the North/South divide, it didn't end up working out. 


However, I have an idea that I think we could all be happy with.  I was thinking more of a Middle/Coast division.  It would be a lot of fence, though definitely worth it and I bet boys from the middle could throw a fence up in nothing flat.  The work being done alone, would repel most of the coasters. 

We'd both be rid of Obama and Bieber. 

We can take part of the far northwest coast line, Alaska, and the Gulf of Mexico for export of food, goods, and energy to the world and the neighboring coasts. 

When the coasts go broke, we buy the land for rock bottom prices, buy the folks a cheap ticket elsewhere and expand again.

You make a very valid point regarding Bieber. He is turning out to be a total embarrassment for both our countries. I will openly apologize for all of Canada, but I can tell you we will really be dragging our feet if he decides to ever move back here.  I really like the rest of your idea and I may be pounding posts by daybreak. It may require a high voltage fence, with several chargers like the ones I saw at the Denver show that had stamped on them " Do not use on less than 100 miles of fence."  I may need some help in deciding exactly where the fence should go. Part of me thinks that Vegas could be included in the central country.... just for the income it brings in, but it really is getting close to being coastal. I do believe that the coastal parts of Canada and the US, do draw a lot of money from our federal treasuries, so getting rid of them would be a big benefit. It would also eliminate a bunch of earth muffins who think that work is a four letter word. Lots to think about..... hmmmm.

As long as they don't mate with each other there's no problem.
