We had a steer that continually had a bloat problem and we could not get it under control.  After 3 trips to the vet and numerous probiotic treatments he still was not cured.  We had an idea to transplant live rumen bacteria from another cow to our steer.  Our nearest university has a fistulated cow (cow with an intentional hole in rumen for scientific research) and after contacting them we then feed the cow the steers ration for 7 days to let her rumen acquire bacteria to break down the feed.  We then drenched the steer with her rumen contents mixed with warm water.  After a week the steer is back on feed w/ probiotics. A little extreme, but it looks to have work.  Steers that continue to bloat are hard to save and get back on feed, I feel for everyone who has had to experience this problem.

We had to do this same treatment to my son's steer.  They call it tranfaunating and it's pretty amazing.  Did it three times and the steer has been fine ever since.  They also told us to add a 1/2 teaspoon of Tide to each feeding.  Been doing this for over two months and in the last month we've gained over 100 lbs.
