My market steer, has a little blood in his stool. Its not there all the time. I wormed him on 10-11-08 with valbazen. Is this the normal effect of the dewormer, or is there something wrong? (he eats all his grain, hay, and drinks plenty of water.) he does hunch up a bit when he goes though.
if you need any more info to make a diagnosis, i'll try to answer best i can. thanx

When I hear of blood in the stool, first thing that comes to mind is Coccidiosis, but I'm not a vet...call up your vet and see if you need to bring in a stool sample.

his stool is firm though, doesn't it have to be loose and soupy for it to be Coccidiosis?

You may have just caught it in its early stages. I would call your vet and see what he thinks about it.

I'll talk to my vet, but do you think i should deworm him again even though i just dewormed him 10-11-08? for future deworms, should i use something else other than valbazen?

Read the bottle as far as the recommendations of when to deworm again.
As far as the blood in the stool is concerned, I would give one Sustain III bolus/100lbs of body wt. and observe the calf. You can also feed a product called decox for 28 days and never have to worry about it again. It would depend on how many that you are feeding as to which approach would be best. JMO. Brent

That's what I'd do too.  I'd also keep him on a feed with Bovatec or Rumenson as those help keep coccidia from reoccuring as well as a lot of other benefits.
