"Because the Shorthorn breed is a RED breed, which has modifiers that cause Roan or Spots, a WHITE Shorthorn is (homozygous) RED (ee) and homozygous ROAN (RR) (essentially it could also be homo or hetero for spots, but that is another discussion) White Shorthorn are eeRR"

That is what I believe is the 'added dimension' in breeding Shothorns, you never know the colour until you see the calf!
