Here in Iowa we have been feeling the heat too but it seems like producers still have enough water and grass. I am planning on selling a heifer that we showed this past year. She is bred and will make a great cow for someone but i was just wandering what bred cow and heifer prices are looking like right now in the northern midwest. Are they up compared to recent months or years? i plan on at the least,  breaking even with this heifer and hopefully making some money off of her but I was just wandering what the condition of the market for breds is today. thanks for input

I have heard commercial Angus cross cows 3-6 years old around 1500-1600 each. Not sure on bred heifers but the earlier post seems about right. Prices are up from previous years since about March 2011.

I know this will not help but out of interest prices have dropped here. Bred cows were making up to $1650 now back to $1100 for top units many at $900

It will be interesting with the combination of heat and drought to see where prices go in the next couple of months. I was talking to a friend and he had a contract farmer lose 600 steers yesterday. There are lots of cattle to be had for low prices, but also alot of people afraid to put them on a truck with good reason.
