Ok, I know a lot of you are in the business of raising and selling show steers and pay money to get listed in this directory or that directory.

Here is our page:
http://www.steerplanet.com/component/option,com_weblinks/catid,2/Itemid,32/

Awful I know, that is why it is not shown on the menu bar.

Well I want to create a directory that is easy to navigate, searchable, sortable, and just really easy to use.  Some tell me what you like and don't like. What is lacking out there and what you like out there.

What sortable categories do you want?  location, breed, ???  Do you want your username associated with listing?  Able to preview the website before viewing?  Google map, similar to our breeder map? Listing for private treaty sale?

Of course this will all be free, the only thing that we would ask would be a small link on your site. (not mandatory, but appreciate it)

Sounds good, Jason!!

I think sorting the breeders by breed and location is extremely helpful.  Its also helpful if you know the last time each site was updated.  With our slow internet speed, I'd really like to know if the website has been updated since I last visited it rather than take a lot of time to let it download.  Just my thoughts!!

Super Duper Idea (clapping)

can sort two ways (alphabetical  or by state)

Id love to be able to see too or sort by last updated (but thats gonna be hard to do with everyones pages being in different web locations)

I wonder if we could have like an avitar (instead of the steer) where we could maybe put a picture - just like on the profiles we use
I dont think the username is all that needed

I wonder if its possible to add other sites too like (gifts, feed, supplies .....)
so maybe we need to catagorize???

It sure is nice to see how steerplanet is growing and changing

Sorting by name and state is important.  It's also a good idea to flag the sites that have been updated with new pictures or new information in the last 30 days.  If you could provide a link that sorts the updated sites it would be very helpfull as well.  With Show steers I try to update my site as often as possible and then email them to flag my site as NEW PICTURES.  Once my site is listed on there as updated my hit counter will go from 3-4 hits a day to 300-500 in a couple weeks.

It's also a good idea to have a sale listing for those breeders that are having sales.  During the fall people will search that link to find the sites that have calves for sale.

Most of the time it's my own work but I do sometimes consult the use of a Good SandHill Photographer!

This is one thing that erks me with my dial up, when a site keeps on saying that they have new pics to view & I take the time to look but nothing new. Pretty soon I quit going to that particular site. Just venting early today.
BTW, I think that one of the reasons that SP is increasing in visits is that you allow PPL to post pics. Everyone that likes cattle, loves to see PPL's calves/cows/bulls. Brent

Fantastic idea!!!!!
It would also be nice to have them broken down by breeds. I know a lot of people cross breed or have several different breeds  but it would be helpful. Maybe have a club calf section too? Love the idea of the current update. It's a beautiful thing!!!! I just checked into showsteers.com and they want 250.00 to link up. Money is so hard to come by these days it would be really nice to have something that is free or affordable!

My thoughts - Take them for what they are worth  ;)

I wouldn't want my usersame associated with my site. Big part of the fun of playing around here is maintaining at least a little anonymity.

I really like it when the list is searchable/sortable by recent updates, like on EDJE, and of course I'd say breed and location are a must

So if we design our website we can link on here or do you guys have a template I can use?

Don't have a template to use, but yes if you design one we get you linked on here.

i would use this in a lot smaller version

I would probably even make a smaller one that can be put at the bottom of your page or you could just put a link.
