I have a friend that would like to hear what steerplanet members think he should breed his heifer to. She is currently bred and he wanted suggestions for next years calf.

Not funny.

The girl has the bloodlies and yes she is not blown out and fat like all those pretty pictures.Have to start somewhere. I have a couple of cows that are as ugly as sin, but they ahve some of the best calves. Every year they put out square hipped deep bodied calves. People usually don't think the calves belong to them. Give the kid a chance.

If it were me, I am big fan of Gizmo. he is not going to add size but will give a shot of muscle and volume to the body. He adds some rib and has been great for us as far as depth.
Is she clean being out of 20/20? That also makes a difference. Is the guy shooting for heifers or steers or doesn't care?

I do not like Jake's Proud Jazz or I didn't have luck with him. He every bit of rib and bone out of the calf. She was small at birth but was too small out of a Primo daughter that had plenty of thickness etc.

I would also give Lakeside Shorthorn's a second look for a performance twist on her.

Once she gets a calf on the ground you will know more what to breed for. Chance there might be some bw behind the heifers' dam.

Ya not cool man. Rude really. I think Ace of Diamonds would be cool on her to add some bone and muscling. And you're not really double breeding anything either. JPJ might work too, but you'll have to see how her first calf comes out and see what she puts in her calves, then you can find what bulls put what into their calves and find out what will really click with her. Good luck!!! AOD, I think does have Double Stuff, but is so far back it wont matter.
