has anyone else had (what I call bad luck )red and white calves out of broker ?

I've seen reds,and I've seen colored up blacks. so its probably possible ,but guessing your cow has something to do with it as well

Broker is heterozygous black, so the odds of getting a red calf out of a mating to a heterozygous black cow are 25%. The spot gene is altogether separate from the color gene that determines whether the calf is black or red, and my experience tells me and my personal theory is that most (if not all) baldy Simmental cattle carry the spot gene. Solid colored cattle can also carry the spot gene...since it's a recessive gene, you don't see it expressed in an animal that is heterozygous for spotting. So any female that has thrown spots bred to a baldy bull or any bull known to be a spot gene carrier would have a chance of throwing another spotted calf. Or a calf with a lot of chrome. Baldy to baldy matings seem to do that with high frequency...you're not guaranteed a solid, blaze-faced calf if two parents are solid / blaze faced.
