I've heard of the bull Broker and see that he is winning almost all of the bull shows. Also that he sired a $190,000 heifer at Hartmans, has anyone used him? If you have how are the calves looking?

I've seen him in person. He is a very complete bull IMO. It'll be fun to see if he can pull off the triple crown by winning the NWSS. I have seen quite a few heifer calves out of him and they all are above average IMO. If he wins Denver I suspect semen could go allot higher than it is right now. He is selling for $125/unit with a minimum of 10 units required.

I agree.  Those who have semen on him are using it wisely and also watching with anticipation what he does in Denver.  Fingers crossed I'm going to breed a group of Simmental and SimAngus first calf heifers to him in about a month.

The question is, How much did they really pay for the 190,000 heifer? Last Year there was a bull that was already purchased for 25k. A real good friend of mine was one of the ones who bought interest. They ran him through an auction and he sold for 40k. he really only sold for 25k. its a you scratch ,my back, I scratch yours. I also know of a 20k+ heifer that only sold for 5k or 6k+ but made good publicity for the bull.  I would venture to guess the heifer truly didnt sell for 190,000. JMO

As a Simmental breeder I'd love to hope it was real money but I don't know I've ever seen one that went even into the teens where there wasn't some agreement established prior to that animal entering the sale ring.  Not saying it's a great thing but it sure happens.

I'm surprised there hasn't been pictures and threads on that heifer selling.

Are you kidding me? You have never seen real money on one that's sold for over 10k? What sales have you been going to?

Hope it was.  That would be awesome in a lot of ways.  I have seen lots of cattle sell for big money.  I have seen lots sell for "real" big money, but I have seen a lot sell for big Monopoly money too.

In my opinion when they get that high you have to at least scratch your head on it.  Regardless, the bull is awesome.  I have a group of cows we are using him on soon.  We will see what happens.

I know the two bidders who were on her and who sold her. Although I am always extremely hesitant to say "it was real" I feel like if was. But there are TONS of cattle that sell for 10k+++ that is legit....

I wasn't saying they aren't real money, however in my experience on big money cattle their is some discussion prior to the sale and some agreement in place as to what happens after the sale.  It's not just about someone writing a check.  Again I'm thrilled for the Hartman crew and everyone involved on this great female and on the bull as well.  I think bigger things are coming for him.

Oh I know I wasn't trying to say you were being pessimistic or anything at all. I was just adding what info I knew.

Does anyone know if broker has scurs I would assume he doesn't but it looks like in his photos he does?

He should be polled based on his pedigree.  Steel Force and Blackfoot are both homozygous polled.  Doesn't mean it's not possible for him to be scurred but he's not reported as such on his papers.

The $190K heifer is at the bottom of the page for those that wanted to see a pic.

One for $190,000 and one for $25,000 puts a nice avg on Broker calves!

That's the problem with fake and skewed numbers...  If that bull sires 50 calves, and all but one goes to market for $1000, but that one brings 190k-- the selling price average will still be number 1 in the breed, even though the bull will probably rank close to the bottom in terms of the predictability that his offspring will sell at or above the average selling price

It'll be fun I guess to watch the Hartman's promotions team tout HOC Broker. I think that the bull is for real. I don't really think that all of the money may have been real. To compare the Broker calf sale prices to the next best bull that Mike has been promoting the figures are as follows from his latest sale, 11 head of Broker sired calves averaged $51,000.00/head with the top lot bringing $190,000.00 and the lowest selling Broker bringing $11,000.00. On 10 head of Driver sired cattle, the highest seller was lot# 23 @ $50,000.00 and the cheapest selling Driver sired calf was lot#25 @ $5,000.00. The average price on 10 Drive sired calves was $15,500.00. Maybe the highest priced Broker sired calf was lot A @ $125,000.00 with no semen sale rights. 1/3 semen interest for in herd use only. NO semen sales. Seller retains full possession & foreign semen rights.
