Bull calf to pick on

Oakie I understand our commercial industry in Australia very well sorry I am not that famillier with yours. I have been a buyer for a packer for22 years. The packer I buy for as with most in my area buy cattle straight off grass with only silage or hay as a suppliment. Average carcass wt of a 16 month old is between 220-250kg no grain. Grass grows well in our area sorry about metric but we has an average rain fall of 1000+mls a year. Ave winter temp, winter here at the moment, 5 to 14 Celcus summer it is 10 to 27. It is a great place to run cattle. Other parts of Austrailia in the north are alot harder and more like maybe your enviroment but this peace of paradice I live in called Tasmania at the bottom of the world is a great place to run commercial cattle. Yes the calf has been creep fed hard to win a show if you don't. If I get time in the next few days I will take some commercal shots for you. Another thing to add, this what I meant about some American commerical cows, is we have very if any Euro in our cow herd only use Euro as a terminal. Hope this gives a better picture of our situation

Mark and everyone else. As far as I know the club calf scene is not existent. All our str comps are hoof and hook.  Large comps with some xbreds but all strs are killed and am not sure some of the " fluff balls "you guys show would cut it. Also because of this setup there is not the money in producing show strs there is in the states. I am trying to set up a lead circut in our state and have wanted to get some club calf semen and the closest I came was some Sheriff Taylor so nothing happening. Xbred cattle as in "American Cows " have little or no acceptance here. very commercial.

He's definitely coming along well. Bet he is going to be something to look at as a 2.

I see the ring in his nose, are you planning on him beaing an AI stud or is that common practice for bulls down there?  Or was he shown?  Just being nosey  (thumbsup)  I'd like to turn him out with some of my Charolais cross heifers for dark smokies.  They're the only ones that will outsell solid black around here.

That's an impressive bull calf and his dam is a really good cow! (thumbsup)

He was shown on his dam with some success and will be shown by himself now he is weaned. Bulls here can not be shown over the age of 12 months with out a nose ring.

I kinda figured that but wasn't sure.  Different breed associations over here have their own rules but 12 months is the general up here too.
