Bull or Steer

What do you all think about this calf?  He's a Jakes Proud Jazz x Ali/Power Plus heifer.  Think he'd make a good bull?  Or should I steer him?

Sorry...posted same pic twice and can't figure out how to remove.  He's about 5weeks old in both pics.

My first question is defect status? Registered as a shorthorn plus or mainetainer

Depends on what your plans as a bull would be. Are you talking keeping for yourself/selling to someone has a good herd bull or are you talking promotional bull/collecting semen and all of that? I don't know when you usually cut/band your bull calves but I think come May1st you'll have a far better idea of how he will look. I think he will be a good steer or a good herd bull. I really like his pedigree for replacements, and I would guess he could be used as a heifer bull with JPJ and Ali. I really like how flat his shoulders are,  the squareness of his rear and his jet front. He looks to have some frame to him, but it's hard to tell at this age. Good looking calf, best of luck!

He is THF/PHAF.  Not registered yet-but will be registered Shorthorn Plus and Maintainer.  His BW was 76lbs. 

See how he fills out-looks to have alot of grow for a proud jazz-doesnt look typical,kinda gangly right now;real good maine genetics along with the shorthorn O0

WOW he's thick, I would keep him a bull but you may never be able to sell him with his coat color. He could be an excellent commercial sire based off of his growth too.

Steer...he is WAY cool looking!

I'd guess he's worth more $ as a steer.
