I will comment on my own bull STANDS ALONE that is at stud at Nichols Cryo in Ankeny, IA (the only place in IA for top quality semen collection.)  Look at this bull long and hard, as I believe it will be hard to find another as complete in terms of soundness, muscle, phenotype and conformation.  I have seen his mother, grandmother and sire in the pasture at Wayne and Barb Ohlrichs, NE.  The choice was easy after I saw all of them, let's just say it was a no-brainer for us.  I'm hard on Maines and this bull provides so many good things for the breed.  We need SOUND cattle w/ performance, mommas who will milk and not-lay down w/ PH and TH DUMB calves.  (He's TH and PHA free) I'll use him on what few cows I've got left that are positive.  Open Bar x Whiplash Cow (maternal 1/2 brother to Point Taken) Take a look at Stands Alone - putzlivestock.com

Don, I will say that you had the most versitile, complete bulls in Denver. I think that he is a real breeding bull. Good luck with him. <beer>

I had a chance to go through Nichols and Hawkeye yesterday with some friends, and thought Stands Alone was one of the best clubby bulls I saw!  What made him unique to most all the bulls was that he had a lot of width of base, big deep rib, sound on his feet and legs, and really great scrotal development!  He looks like he will last, and still be impressive as a 2 year old.  For being clean for PHA and TH, he still had a lot of muscle mass and hair too.  He will certainly add some functionality back to the clubby programs I think.  Congrats to the Putz's for picking a good to promote!  (clapping)

(nichols)Stands Alone was easily my favorite bull at my stud visits.. he was so complete.. no he wasnt the hairest bull ,no he wasnt the hairest bull , and he wasnt the widest bull BUT he actually had a set of nuts you could see, he was SOUND, he is defect FREE, he is maternally oriented(open bar and whiplash), he was NOT a pud/dink, he was REAL WORLD SIZE. I would love to breed him to some white faced simmental cows and get really nice replacement heifers!

(nichols)one and only looked good as well nice and extended noze to tail bonus white face

(hawkeye)maximm i liked could use some more size but looks really cool

(hawkeye) walks alone looked good 3 ft wide but little small plenty of style for a mature bull

(hawkeye) mississippi stud probablly widest of new bulls

(nichols) the gift, super extended tail to nose thick and hairy

Hollywood at nichols looked like a real nice mature bull

(nichols)monopoly son named i believe "Special edeition" looked real good hairy thick and bigger framed

In picture some folks had commmented One and Only's head looked little out of proportion to his body. I assume it was the angle of the photo. What did you think when you saw him? Hair, Bone?

When you say small on Walks Alone- frame 4-5? I could see him working on some finer made females to beef them up?

i thought there was somethin a little different about his head nothing real noticeable but since your brought it up i did bring that thought back, seemed like he had a longer nose than usual? like from eyes to nose not monkey mouth or parrot faced

he woudl defiantely work on the fine made cows, he is probabbly 5? maybe 4.5... he is long bodied but not tall bodied if that makes since. he has style to burn, he looks like a real cow changer

tony hilburt stopped in last weekend and looked at calves. he was telling me about his bull special edition. from what he was telling me i was kinda interested, but i would like to hear from people that have been to the stud.

HE also told me about another bull called patty wagon. he thought that he would make some good show heifers.

Any info on them would be great.

Patty wagon  was ina  pen right next to stands alone, both bulls looked kinda alike, more of a softer made more maternal looking appearance. patty wagon was deep wide had nuts had some size, sound... stands alone and patty wagon both looked the part and walked the part of bulls who are gonna stick around

special edition i liked just as good as any upper quality monopoly on, big foot  sound really just going to fault him  by saying he was a tick straight in his rear wheels

Special Edition

Thank you show steaks for listing our bull on your pick of sires. I would like to take a min. to talk about him. I think that Special Edition is a bull that is really fling under the radar. He is a bull that will bring back some performance in the club calf herds. As a yearling he was about 55 inches tall and weighted about 1450 lbs. He has a great big hip, really stout, long spine, and deep rib with alot of volume. when he gets out and moves he fills this tracks. I think he has good set in his rear wheels with good bone and shaggy legs.

I think that this bull can raise alot of cattle with a show ring look.

I love to talk cattle. so anyone that wants to call about the bull please do

Looking at One & Only's pic I think the combination of his choked throat and how the white is on his head and chin create a optical illusion about his head not looking proportional.

its not just the picture

I am not starting an argument in any way here...I just want to point out that this discussion relative to One & Only illustrates to me how good he is on the hoof...people are arguing about his head.

I think he's a helluva bull. I've seen him a handful of times, only went back to make sure he was a good as I thought he was. Can't wait to use him.

For the record I wouldn't even know one of the owners if I saw them. He's just a breath of fresh air in the clubby deal.
