What are the best bulls out there to use on Angus cows for producing club calves and replacement heifers?

Cerveza or other IW sons...  Meyer 734 sons possibly Climax.
I agree with these , also would add who and Dr who for replacements and for steers its hard to beat walks alone on plain Angus cows.

I've heard mixed reviews on the WA's as replacements. I cannot speak from experience. There is an awesome one sold tonight on hustons online sale on cw sales.

What about Unstoppable.  Will he make good steers and heifers ?  I would imagine its pretty limited how many heifers he has in production at this point.

Walks Alone has enough freak that he can take a decent Angus cow and make a decent steer prospect.  Have a WA heifer that is pretty decent, but her dam is a really good commercial Angus.  Does anyone have any idea whether Smokin Bob or Yellow Jacket will work on Angus?

I've heard that Yellow Jacket really clicks with Angus cows. Although I am not speaking from experience. I will probably bred a group to him this year.

Remember what PPL are saying about WA dispositions. The first Unstoppable heifer should just be calving this spring. Just my 2 cents worth, I would not breed any Heat Wave derivative bull and plan to keep females.

I have to agree with CAB about WA's calve's dispostitions.  Some can get pretty hot.  I would choose a good simmental bull and reap the rewards.  Sim-angus calves are easy to sell these days and the females make great replacements. I saw Unstoppable at Hawkeye a while back and I was impressed.  He may be a good option.  Yellow Jacket would also be an option.

Do I hear this right don't keep Monopolys as females .......

I think we could coin a new term with the HW and HW derivative females, and that would be "Terminal Dams".  These females can have their place in a herd, but they should not be a long range direction if someone wants to be in the cattle business for the long term.  As I see it, keeping say a Monopoly female in a herd would be for crossing back to a clubby bull to produce a terminal cross offspring (i.e. showsteers).  This is no different than using terminal sires to produce terminal cross calves to increase efficiency in the feedlots.  But the perpetuation of these genetics within a herd will lead to long term problems.

Jamie, for me, I think that there are so many great options for replacements that I can't afford to take the risk and spend the money developing a heifer and she end up not being able to produce enough milk to raise a good doing calf. You can tell by watching the online sales that I am not the only one that has had issues with clubbie bred cattle not being the best choice for replacements. I know that there are outliers to this theory, but I am not willing to gamble any longer. JMO, everyone needs to do what works for them.

Talked to Chris yesterday.  I am getting some direct whiskey, after telling him I was getting it, I explained what we had for heifers and he quickly said, use him on the angus based, he really works well on angus.....  He is a safe birthweight bull with direct impact and Irish whiskey behind him.  A heifer out of him and an angus based cow won a big state fair last year, slipped my mind which one.  But he was quick to say direct whiskey works great on angus, I think they should be awesome mama cows too.
