Buying cattle in Canada

With the dollar at a high right now, has anyone purchased cattle at sales in Canada from the US.  I see a couple of sales on LiveAuction.tv in Canada. Do you bid in Canadian and then convert it to US Dollars to pay? If you buy private treaty do you pay with US Dollars or Canadian. 

When we took a trip to British Columbia they converted everything at the register and you paid with Dollars and then were given change in Canadian.

Are there deals to be had in Canada? Just wondering how it would work. 

It has been my experience in the past that you bid in Canadian and then convert. They will sell the majority of the cattle in Canada, so they wouldn't want to put a hardship on those buyers.
But I would make sure 1st.

You bid in Canadian dollars, than they convert if it's private than the bank will convert

As of today you buy cattle in Canada and your from the US your dollar is worth about $1.30 per $1 Canadian on the exchange. Take advantage of it.

There will be added costs for export fees at the border, it is cheaper if the buyer takes the animal across by them self. Also the animal will need to get health papers and inspected by a vet. The cost here will very depending on your states import health requirements and what the vet will charge.

They normally announce the exchange rate they're using during the presale speech. Seems like they might even round it to something simple to keep the calculations easy for us southerners. I generally just buy frozen, but the auction companies have been very easy to deal with no matter the purchase. I will say those guys and gals up north really appreciate good cattle and genetics though, so I generally find myself just running up bids more often than not.

One day I'm just going to head north with a trailer or hitch a ride with someone going just to go see the cattle as they are.
