What are the birthweights like on the Dirty Hairy 2 calves being born?  I have 2 hfrs (2009 models) that were shown last year and didn't get bred so I will be breeding them this spring for them to have their first calves as 3 yr olds next spring.  I was considering using DH2 on them?  Any thoughts?

I really like the bull but lautners say he is easier than his brother and I have heard he is having higher birthweights are kind of high but that is only a few calves I have seen of him

What, is DH2 $5 cheaper than DH? I think that I would use the original if that is the price difference. JMO

CAB, despite how the name sounds Dirty Hairy 2 is a full brother to Dirty hairy and not a clone. I was confused about that myself at first. Unless that is not what you meant by "original" then my bad.

I was just saying why not use the more prooven bull, especially on a 1st calf heifer. DH has been used on heifers although quite a few of them will need assistance & the word on the street has been that DH2's are somewhat bigger than the DH's have been.

We have used the original Dirty Hairy on heifers and gotten along great until this year.  Now I am wondering if when we ordered semen last year if we got DH2 instead.  I m going to have to go back and look at the paper work and a straw of the semen.  Our Dirty Hairy calves are quite a bit bigger than in years past :(.  I was attributing it to the hard winter and the heifers being in very good condition.  But now I am wondering?

what are the heifers out of, like according to their bloodline what would they contribute to bw. since birthweight on a calf is a 2 sided deal i think that could help you alot and possibly prevent a disaster if they are say heatwaves. if they are angus inf or of low bw parents. i think either of the dh bulls will work. i know its off topic  but just putting it out there

Had a Dirty Harry 2 steer a few weeks back out of a six year old cow.  Had to assist but it wasnt a hard pull...I would guess he weighed in the mid 80's.  Have a heifer due to him this week.  I would not use him on heifers in the future.

Our cows and heifers (we use him on both) Have NO heatwave in them.  Some have no "clubby" blood in them.  Same mature cows this year as last year and bigger hipped calves.
