is it just me, or is there no way that some of these club calf bulls didnt way more than 90 lbs? For these bulls to be this stout and powerful, they must be dishonest about their birthweights?

I also find it "odd" that when you look through semen catalogs there are no bulls that weigh over 95 pounds. And many are in that 85-90 range! Yet, many of these bulls will throw HUGE calves.
I honestly think most are not weighed, and those that are, have a scale that stops at 90!  And then theres those that list no birth weight at all, which really makes me wonder! Maybe those are the same people who do not have a proper calander!! (You know, those that months only have a 1-4, and have every other month listed!!  ;)

With that in mind, when using any bull, I also look at the total pedigree of the bull (the theory that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree is true with critters too!). I also consider what female I am breeding it too (they are half the equation).

I am glad a lot of folks like to try those "new up and coming bulls", as I like to wait and get first hand opinions from people who have actually used him, and not someone saying "his birth weight is ok. He came out alive. Should be ok. or "I read it on the internet board that he worked...."    I like first hand experience stories!

I think we also need to remember that a lot of bulls (Purebred or Club Calf) are the result of embryo transfer and the recipient provides its own environment. Therefore, an Angus recip that is short gestation may have a bull calf 1 week early and weigh 85 pounds but genetically the bull may throw calves according to his parentage and genetics. There are many factors that may affect birthweights. Your feeding program, gestation length, hard winter, just to name a few. The cow and environment has a larger affect than the bull himself. Although I will not disagree that some producers may speculate birthweights.

There is probably more fudging when it comes to birthwieght than anything else.  I remember a catalog for a bull sale a couple of years ago. The birthweights on lots 7 thru 35 were all 80 lbs.  What a coincidence!

I'm not saying that there is no  adjustments on some of these bulls birthweight ..But I do agree with Sundy that their are ways to take advantage of the right kind of receipts , if you have the money to pursue it ....Feed is also a factor that can be manipulated ...The bigger outfits that have unlimited resouces have figured ways to use these things to their advantage ....

I think its pretty sad when people lie just to make a buck and don't care who gets hurt. I can tell you that we weigh all of our calves within an hour after birth. Headliner, Monopoly, and All aboards birthweights are accurate. I wouldn't breed any cow to any clubby sire if I didn't think that she could have a 100 pound calf anyway.
