Ok, the mom is about 20 days away from calving, first calf heatwave heifer, bred to son of Ali,  I see this calf kicking constantly in her, and I mean just kicking the heck out of her.  I have never seen so much movement, is this something to be concerned about or is this just an over active kid ready to hit the ground running?  I don't know whether to laugh or chew my finger nails off.

ordinarily I would agree,  I spoil my girls so it's easy to pay this much attention,  as I was giving her the daily booty scratch you should of seen this thing bounce off the walls, it was a lil creepy and a bit odd.  Maybe I tickled mom and baby didn't like it.  Ok well I guess nothing to worry about then, but it was an awful lot of daily movement I have never seen before.  At least my kids thought it was cool to watch lol

Wouldn't hurt. We just had a cow abort triplets last Sunday. She was AI'd to Hannibal, and wasn't due until April 16th. The calves were fully formed, hooves, hair, just needed to grow. Two bulls, one heifer, about the size of Jack Russel Terriers. The first bull was a little bigger. She is a Heat Seeker cow. She has had two sets of twins in the past with no problems. I think in the future we will have to get an ultrasound on this one for sure. Huge loss.

20 days away?  i wouldn't call a vet or bother the cow right now.  let her be, just be dang ready when the calf comes.

maybe you could call the vet to give him a heads up, but your vet is probably busy and all that would do is pacify yourself and waste the vets time.  nothing needs to, or can be done right now, so save your money for the vet bill until you have a problem that needs addressed.

if you end up pulling the calf, make sure he does get you off balance with a fast left jab and then come at you with an overhand right!

depending on how much this calf or calves is worth to you I would call the vet.  This can guarantee if you have twins, and if so can allow you to plan for an elective c-section to be done (and get both calves out alive).    Complications arising from twin births either to the dam or the calves are high.  At the end of the day a vet call of $100bucks or less could save you a hell of a lot more money down the line (due to prevention of emerg c-section/pull call, or losing one of the calves (if twins).).
Def call your vet - they would prefer to see you during daytime hours to plan this out, than for you to wake them up in the middle of the night.  We're never to busy to not want a call.

As long as the kicking continues I would not be worried - calves in bad distress (ie like cord rupture) have been known to kick violently (due to extreme distress) prior to dying (by bleeding out) - some calves are just more active and some are positioned more so you can see them dancing

Good likeness zach

ps no excessive kicking does not necessarily indicate twins

I'm anxious to hear if its a vigorous calf or one of those calves that are big and dumb.  Good luck!
