the voting public, as usual, has a zero tolerance for everything.  at some point, they will tolerate zero food production in the US.

in some circles, this is ok with them as they view humans as a pox.

"I don't know what happened," Armstrong said, "but those aren't common farming practices. We don't promote what happened and we definitely don't condone it."

doesn't matter, the exception makes the rule in politics.

"Our society is more attentive to animals than ever before," said Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive officer of the Humane Society of the United States.

this simply isn't true as fewer and fewer people have any concept of what an animal is.  attentive is not the correct word here, perhaps disconnected is a more appropriate word.

wonder what people would say if they found out that alot of these videos are staged by animal rights activists to help promote their agenda.

not much, it doesn't fit their world view, particularly if the choice doesn't affect them directly.  most common answer is, "it doesn't affect me, i don't care".  the free lunch metality doesn't ever care to investigate where it came from.  examples,

social security
fannie mae
freddie mac
medicare/medicaid

I have an aunt that works for AAFES and they don't pay into social security. They have a different retirement fund. I guess because they know how bad the social security program is. Unbelievable

I guess they are going to enjoy paying through the nose for their eggs and pork then as hens start eating the eggs and momma pigs start laying on and gutting babies. When all this stuff happens profits start to go out the window.

"More attentive to animals than ever before...." is right! I cannot believe the amount of distruction caused by the floods of this summer and how people are out of work, without homes, but there have been fundraisers to reconnect them with their pets! A dog is a man's best friend- yes, being able to feed oneself seems more important to me than having Fido. And don't get me wrong, my show heifers were my best friends but I know where to draw the line.

I think people need to follow their beliefs and stop patronizing the institutions that are calling for a halt in the use of cages- Whole Foods, etc. That might send a message. We, agriculturalists, are only 1/2 of one percent of the population and we always have to stand together on subjects. Granted, I have been to an egg plant and witnessed and smelled the hens. I don't like that, but the factual evidence of avian flu and food safety over rules my nose!

Thank you Knabe for this article.
