Hard work, time, with a little patience. Melatonin 30 to 40 3mg tablets for a evey day for couple days prior to the show should work, won't hurt the animal and is not a drug nor do they test for it. We had luck feeding Glu-coat to a highstrung steer, but that was a long term process.

I haven't used it on a daily basis but I have used Focus prior to shows and during shows.  It is a natural liquid supplement. Many different vendors ant our local shows sale it. My calves seemed to respond well to it. Doesn't put them to sleep, just kind of takes the edge off.

We have used Thorazine in the past on a heifer. She wasnt wild or crazy just stubborn and refused to walk no matter what you did. The Thorazine took the edge off and she would walk just fine. But, you need a prescription for it

No, and they do not test for the active ingredient in calf calm, tryptophan and herbs. Nor do they test for melatonin, they are usually testing for anti inflammatories, ace, banamine, steroids and drugs like that. I am not sure all the drugs they test for but according to the vet at the fair it is the same test that they use on race horses, at least at our county fair.
