I  was  wondering  how  many  of  you  pull  cows  into a  calving  pen  to  calve?  If  you  do  how  many  days  before  due  date  do  you  do  this? I  usually  calve  outside  but  it  is  suppose  to  get  down  in  single  digits  at  night  this  week?  thanks  for  any  info  given.

Also, I just look at each cow for about 15 minutes and decide which 5 are closest and then lock them up then once a calf is out put the pair to pasture 24 hours after birth

Ours are in a lot under cameras during the day and then in the barn under other cameras at night.  When we are first starting each year it is way too far in advance.  I'm anxious and we have the room.

As we get farther along I hope to get a few days on each cow.  They all are not locked in actual pens.  Its the barn lot or in the barn if the weather is bad.  We don't have enough pens to lock them individually although that would be my ideal especially for heifers in February/Early March in the Midwest.

If bred for club calves I think you put them in or in a lot with quick access to a chute in any weather.  You are going to have to assist / pull some sooner or later.

If it is going to be nasty weather I put them in at night for sure, and then decide if they should go out during daylight.  I also like to make sure and treat the calves right away and it sure is nice to have them right there.
