Long story short: Had a cow calve beside one of our PB Angus first calf heifers late last night. Come to find out this morning they got their calves switched and claimed the wrong ones. Now they won't switch to the right ones at all, anyone ever had this happen? Suggestions? Already tried putting her in chute and calf claim powder.

Leave well enough alone, if each calf has a momma then I would take note of it and back off. If you play with this long enough you will end up with 2 orphans and run 2 dry cows this summer.

If both mommas are feeding the calves I'd just let them go. Some cows won't even claim their own calves let alone anothers. Wouldn't try to fix a problem that's not there.

I had heard that is what happened with the bull, Heads Up, sire to LLSF Uprising. Heads Up should be registered as a 3/4 blood, but did not DNA back to his dam. In other words, he would not DNA to the dam that raised him, but did DNA to the AI sire Upgrade used on the dam.
When you have hundreds of cows calving together, it is possible!

Had this happen yesterday, two cows calved right next to each other and each wanted to claim both calves, I think we got the right calf with the right cow but who knows for sure.  One was bred for power and the other calving ease so the smaller one went with the calving ease cow.

Thanks for all the comments. We were weary of just letting them raise the wrong ones as one was actually my uncles and one was mine and we don't always summer them near eachother. We just kept working at it in the chute and with calf claim and they accepted the correct ones last night.

Glad it worked out, but I would have left well enough alone!
