Any suggestions on calving ease bulls? I am looking for a PB maine or simmy that would work on on clubbier bred virgin heifers. I am not interested in trying any "new" bulls but, I am not interested in "throwing away" the calf crop either. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Simmi - Hook's Shear Force, In Dew Time, Sand Ranchhand, and SS Goldmine are all true CE bulls.  We've used them and the calves come really easy.

I would agree with kanshow.  We have used the same bulls and they are safe for heifers.  I really like the Ranchhand calves.  They come small and are very attractive--should work on those clubby heifers.

I'll third kanshow's post.

I used In Dew Time on heifers last year, only had to pull one at 88 lbs. Most came in the 70-80 lb range.

We have some SS Goldmine calves, from Simmi cows. One we kept a bull for a while, he was put out to pasture with some gray's, produced some stout red calves that went to auction and fetched a good price for reds. The females that  we have had are thick hindends, deffinately cow looking, have produced some nice calves crossed with angus.

We really like out Dream On calf crop this year.  BW were 80-90 on bull calves and 70-75 on heifers.  The cows were purebred simmy, angus, and simangus.  We're really excited out them.  Hustler is listed as a Low BW bull, only had one bull looks nice really stout made.  BW weight was bigger than wanted 105 lb, but the cow is bigger shouldered and her BW EPD's on not the greatest either.  It was her first calf, so it might have been worse if been a different bull.

Dream On works great on heifers but since semen has gone up to $100, I won't do that.

We used Trademark on a few heifers this year and he was supposed to be a good CE bull but we got a couple really big ones from him.    Now besides that, I can't say enough good things about the calves.    I wish they'd been heifers.    I'll use the bull again but will not use him on heifers.

I bred to Hooks shearforce last year. WMW/angus/simm heifer had a great heifer calf unassisted about 70lbs. Ali/Angus/Simm heifer had a tiny heifer calf prob 60-65lbs unassited. Sunseeker/Simm had a big bull calf pulled prob 85-90lbs, once I got the head passed the rest came easy. The Dam to that heifer always throws 90lb heifers and 100-125 lb bull calves though, so it was expected. Then had a ALI/Simm/Angus heifer had a big 80-85 lb heifer calf unassisted out of my Bull that is a purebred Simm Mo Better son. Still have 2 heifers left 1 ALI and 1 Sunseeker that will be bull bred as well.

Only had a couple but the Grizzly calves seem to be small 60lbs or so. Neighbor also had about 5 in that range. Appear to be decent calves.
