Calving Ease Shorthorn Bull?

Looking for a calving ease shorthorn bull that can add hair and moderation....Any suggestions? I know JPJ fits the bill perfect here but would like to use a bull not at $50 a straw if possible....

The proofs in the extended pedigrees.  Find a bull who hasn't a 90+ bw in his line and I'd put my money on his CE.

Caphice. hes a JPJ son, works very well and breeds about the same as his daddy. Select sires caries him. only 20 a straw and you can get sexed semen as well.

I don't think there's any pics on the web, could see about getting a mature picture of him, he would be about 9 years old now.

I have a few bulls that might work, each bull has high calving ease and low BW EPDs

1) Diamond Prophecy 21P. The structural integrity of the Prophecy bull is outstanding.  He is one of the biggest ribbed, deepest bodied and easiest fleshing bulls found in any breed. With adequate bone,  a excellent sound foot, large clean joints and offspring that are born light and body down and gain pounds after birth Prophecy is proving himself to be a breed changer that has caught commercial attention.  Actual BW 84

CE 8.3 BW -3.6 WW 10 YW 26 M 5 MW 10 MCE 1.3
2) Coalpit Creek Leader 6th Red, polled, dam was producing until 15 years of age.  Y lazy Y Shorthorns note on their website that they call him "Easy" for his easy fleshing ability, easy going disposition, and for the calving ease demonstrated this winter.  Easy surely will be noted in years to come as a bull that proved that Shorthorns are commercially acceptable. Actual BW 65

3) Saskvalley Bonanza 219M
Bonanza is no doubt one of the soggiest beef bulls I have ever seen.  Add that to his appealing make up and his obvious longevity he was a sure shot to hit my list! I am a huge fan of Bonanza's sire Saskvalley Ultra 12J who has not only sired great cows, but fantastic herd bulls.   Bonanza daughters have beautiful udders, and are raising great calves.  BW 86

4) 5) RS DV 034 329 08 329 is the smallest framed bull I will list.  He is advertised as a frame score 4.  What I most appreciate about the 329 bull is his smoothness through the front, and his large sound foot.  329 stands on sound clean jointed legs and the offspring I have seen pictured have followed through with their sires sound make up and smooth fronts. BW 69 he is mentioned above by trevorgreycattleco

CE 6.5 BW -3.3  WW 12 YW 30 M 2 MW 8 MCE 2.4
5)HC FL Touchdown 123T
Touchdown was Canadian National Champion 2009.   He is incredibly stout with tremendous lower quarter and thickness, great hair, well formed feet and a fantastic disposition in a moderate framed roan package.  This bull is working all over North America. BW 82 lbs

RS 329  ( 4142538)will definately moderate and add rib. Not sure about the hair and be careful on the front end . He will shorten or "trash" the neck line if you're really wanting a show deal in the end.  Not everytime but  watch it.

Hair coat examples  :

329 x roan  JM vortec dam this fall the calf was roan but slick haired... that calf will go to a county fair  so I dont think they care about slick.  329 X  roan Whr  sonny dam  worked fine for hair- they have showed her twice and love her.
  I have two daughters in production dont really need the "hair deal".  In terms of performance I would compare 329 to JPJ. He is a great "type" bull .  I would not use him on JPJ daughters.

PB Steer by A&T Captain O bvious... he sold in Justin Kaiser's on line sale. I did see this late may baby in person last month.  super sound and he looked fun to feed too.  I believe the dam was a Eldorado first calf hfr??

Sue you had a video of a 329 heifer out of a Captain daughter would you mind posting it?

If you're looking for a more clubbie type, Jazz Man is the JPJ son to use.  He is a TH carrier, but if you can live with that,  I believe he'll do what you're looking for.

329 wasn't bred for the show ring or hair. True.  Captain obvious  is a good choice as well. A@T Cattle Co has lots of calving ease options to. Renegade comes to mind.

I would really like if sue posted that video of her 329 heifer (she would be 2 now).  That Dolly heifer looked like a show heifer to me, she had hair and a top.  329 would be 50% of her genetic make-up CO would be 25%

A&T Shorthorns should be proud of the Renegade bull I think like any good program they keep pumping out higher quality products each year!

Yes  and I thought Star Burst was a heifer bull too?

Jamie- no she was not a "show" heifer, great gentle female for a 1st timer,but too moderate for show and the whole neck deal. Near the bottom every time.    She did raise a nice calf and I would agree with Brock on 329 and captain genetics were developed for beef cattle.  But clubby guys like to try softer bulls too and this is why I am honest about the front end of 329.  The year he sold in blue collar, I saw him in December and any one that called me ... I said "lot 4"... the comments in general were about his front end?    329's dam is heavy fronted too. 

Here's a bull I like a lot - looks like he'd fit the part in both worlds.
