Early march I heifer had a stillborn calf at midnight, next afternoon a heifer had a calf in the yard that got stepped on and died, and that evening a heifer that delivered a live calf but she has mastitis and is only milking out of two quaters. Rough start, but my cows that are AI-ed starting calving this week and So far having great luck and by far best calves I have ever had. Went out this morning at 5:30 and saw a calf laying dead pretty close to a cow and come to realize that she had another one by her side so I was happy she had one live one. As I went up to the other calf I come to find out it was still barely breathing, cold and wet.  Got it in the truck, dried it off, got it some colostrum and saved the calf. The cow obviously isn't taking the calf but it's doing good and to top it both off the twins are really nice 67lb blaze faced (Fat Butt) heifers!!!  It made my easter, along with having another good looking Fat Butt bull calf this afternoon.

Our vet gives  nearly or even just dead calves a shot of adrenaline and sometimes saves/pulls them back....  Always good to save one....  We had a rough start....  Getting better.
