I am sure that our daughter will never forget her 11th birthday, which was on this past Sunday the 18th, which was the same day as the 2010 National junior show in Vermillion AB.
It started out very good with her getting heifer calf champion.
Next was her yearling heifer which she won our big regional 4-H show with 10 days ago. She was class winner and then junior champion, and went on to be Grand Champion female! (clapping) (clapping)
Were we excited and proud? <party> <party> <party>
Then she was in junior showmanship (ages 9 to 15). The judge went along and touched and pushed on the animals and her heifer is so good for her she didnt move at all. Guess all her time playing with her payed off as she was placed first.
Unfortunately the photographer was TERRIBLE!!! I went to get her banner for her to get a pic with the heifer calf and when I was back they were on to the Reserve pic. I couldn't believe the angle of the pics when I saw them a couple hours later.
Good thing Kim had the camera going for a bit so here are a few candids she took.
We are very proud of you Sadie!

The yearling (ACC Candy's Winegum) is by our walking bull Star P Matrix that JIT and us own. She is out of a Diamond Captain Mark cow that is a full sister to a bull named Circle M Ghostrider that bred very well.

The calf is a ET out of our best cow HC Fairest Faye. Faye is a Marc Drive grandaughter on top and a Ready Go grandaughter on the bottom. She is sired by Proud Augustus. At present we think she is better than her dam but hard to tell!! We think that she is thicker and as deep as the yearling (Winegum) was at this age.

Sadie said she is way easier to wash too and I don't think she is talking size either. (lol)

Congrats Sadie!  Your heifers look great  (clapping)

Hilltop, those pictures are better than the one I got in the dark at your place in April ;)  The heifers looked great then, and they look like they are developing well.

Guess we were lucky that he wanted thick well muscled females.
I believe the judge was from up around the Lloyd area but not sure?
The cow that was reserve grand could of been champion and we honestly were expecting her to be,  but like a wise man said to me once "It takes a hell of a yearling to beat a good pair" The cow has proven herself now with three calves and our heifer has yet to! Actually her dam and the dam of our heifer are full sisters! We would love a herd like her.
Ourselves we would of liked to see a little more calf on the reserve champion senior female but again a pair that could work for anyone.  I believe it was only a week younger than the calf on the senior champion cow. 4-H kids would love her. Very eye catching calf!

Shannon grew up at Arcola. His brother Chad still lives there. Chad is married to my cousin. You are correct, Shannon now lives in Lloydminster, where he is an order buyer. His parents live in Saskatoon and Frank still does some order buying,.
