I have yearlings and babies out of Capiche, just no pictures to share with you.  I have been fairly impressed with them.  They are born small, he definitely crushes birthweight and gestation length.  I had 2 purebreds last year, 1 bull and 1 heifer.  The heifer is solid white out of a roan byland dazzler cow, 77 pound birthweight.  The bull is solid red and out of a red first calf heifer, 82 pounds unassisted.  He was also in the very first set of bulls selected out of my private treaty offering and went to a top notch commercial outfit in wyoming.  Last year we had 14 capiche calves out of angus and angusxshorthorn cows.  Some of these angus cows were packing quite a bit of birthweight and the biggest calf we got out of the black cows was like 91 pounds and that was out of a Fix It daughter that had several calves over 100 out of notable angus sires.  most calves out of angus cows were black with the exception of a couple of dark blue roans and one of them had small white socks on the back feet.  all the calves out of the shorthorn x angus cows were dark blue roans and tiny birthweights (63-75).  I sold 2 of these 3/4blood shorthorn steers for showsteers and one of them is going to be a contender.  Out of all of these 16 calves, we only got 3 heifers, all of them were retained for replacements and look like they will be nice moderate females with above average depth and fleshing ability.  We sent the first load of fats April 4th and there were 3 capiches in that load.  The load was mostly late february and march calves and payweight was 1379.  Havent got any kill data back yet as we dont get the data until the last steer in the pen is killed but going by the ultrasound data on the progeny we kept for breeding stock, the kill data should be excellent.  We only got 2 calves out of capiche this year. Both solid red bulls out of shorthorn x angus heifers and both in the 60's for birthweight.  If you need any more info, just contact me.

You know, we raised her from a previously all Limi herd, and I held her back when I went to crossbred and Simmental.  She is an exceptional P.B. limi cow - thanks for noticing!

My son decided to use Capiche on his Red Angus x Simmental cow this year. She is 5 years old.  A video of the calf is on YouTube (search Capiche Calf).  The calf had some issues...wry tail and some nerve damage. We ended up having to put him down.  The calf was 110 at birth, and the cow had him unassisted.  So, not sure if the nerve damage was a cause of birth or something more.  Wry tails, as I have found out, can happen in any breed...and is correctable...so not a huge issue there.

Just sharing because of the lack of Capiche information out there.  Sorry for this not being a great story, but I can tell you this was the best calf this cow has had...nice bone, thick, nice deep red color, etc.  The calf just couldn't get up and walk on his own.  We worked with him for nearly 2 weeks.  Sad day for my son!

I dont have any pictures but my boss bred 4 angus cows to him. I dont know what the pedigrees were on the cows but 3 came out dark blue roan and 1 black all bulls. the solid black one is the best but he is alos prolly out of the best cow out of the 4. they all came out around 70-75 lbs. I have heard though that his capiche calves really dont start looking their best until they hit 3-4 months of age

I have one we are currently showing. She's out of a salute cow, came small in comparison to her dam. And she's growing like a weed, super good calf on my end.

Very, very small framed cattle, most are easy fleshing but watch the foot size and straight front ends. No preal world performance

Your heifer seems to be an outlier.  Her rear 2/3'ds are great, but her front is very JPJ-esque.

How many Capiche calves have you seen dogger?  Or are you making these statements based on who Capiche's sire is?
What is "real worl performance" to you?  1000 pound creep fed SAV weaning weights?  I run my cattle pretty tuff and my Capiche calves werent the heaviest on the ranch but they werent light.  The purebred bull weaned off over 600 pounds out of a 900 pound 2 year old.  What aint real worl about that?  My 3 year old Capiche daughters fit right in with my other 3 year olds, about 1050-1125 pounds and very low maintenance.  I realize JPJ himself had some foot size and structure issues in his progeny but my Capiche cattle have been fine, Capiche's dam is a good, soggy, sound rip with a perfect udder as well.

He's small and doesn't come close to covering his tracks.  If you're getting 600+ 210 day weights out of him, my char bulls would wean 1000 out there.  600 is a good bit over ntl avg for ww.  Your environment must not be as 'bad' as I thought.

That's good. I would hope a char bull would make calves grow faster considering in general they perform better than a shorthorn would dream.

I can promise you A&T is tough place for a cow. Especially last year.

Isn't a char bull suppose to blow away the growth of a shorthorn or at least beat it soundly? I don't think any animal could get 1000 ww in northwest Nebraska. 600 lb ww there equals 750 or more here in the eastern salad bowl.

April heifer. (Pictures taken in October at weaning). Nothing fancy, but very easy keeper.
