He was 95 pounds on a scale. The cow has some birth weight to her, probally not Carpe Diems fault. The cow was lot 118 in the priorty 1 sale 2010. She is a hfcc charolais x serious business.

Would some of you that have bred the bull Carpe Diem to virgin heifers please give me some of your calving experiences?  i.e. weiglht of calves, size of bone, shape of calf, hip size, etc.  Also, if heifer calved on own, lighlt pull, heavy pull, C-Section...live heifer and/or calf, etc...  (argue)

I have purchased some Carpe Diem semen for this years breeding program.  Just not sure if I want to try him on virgin heifers or only use on cows.  (cow)

Thanks in advance for your input.  (clapping)

like the previous posters said. it depends on the cow as well. cow is 50% of the calf.

If you search here on the Planet, it has been talked about him being heifer safe, but not exactly. You'll have to pull some of them. By looking @ this calf, I would say no, he's not heifer safe but that is JMO.

Wanted to add that I have seen Carpe Diem as a mature bull & I would say that he is an impressive moderate complete bull that I would use if he were clean. Very sound moving bull also.

To: ShowStopper95 & CAB,

I have read previous posts on Steer Planet, and understand breeding philosophies and risks of using crossbred bulls on virgins heifers.  In my "normal breeding practice", I only use low EPD for BW Angus bulls.  However, since Carpe Diem is a bull that has sire a certain number of cattle and calf crops, and this being the month of April and many cattlemen either concluding or in the midst of their Spring Calving Season, my question still stands.

I am looking for cattlemen that they themselves have CALVED OUT VIRGIN HEIFERS TO THE CROSSBRED BULL CARPE DEIM, AND THEIR PERSONAL CALVING EXPERIENCES.

This question is meant only for discussion purpose, not to be controversial or condemning of any poster or thoughts.  There is always a NEW BULL on the market, and many that "CLAIM" to be easy calving.  As discussed in a recent post concerning CE and CEM, Calving Ease within a breed, is be vastly different when compared to between breeds.  i.e. A low CE EPD, Simmental sire will produce a heavier actual BW calf than a equally low CE EPD Angus sire actual.  I digress...Many breeders or "marketers/promoters", still list these bulls as calving ease.  Sires such as Rocky Balboa, ALI, Tyson, Tiny Tim, Total Solution and etc.  My question is, where does Carpe Diem fit, with the likes of some of these other "calving ease bulls"?  Regardless of what some breeders personal breeding beliefs or practice of is, many breeders do in fact use these afore mentioned bulls on heifers as a common practice.
