Carpe Diem Calf
« on: March 07, 2013, 10:22:10 PM »
What are the odds that a Carpe Diem calf would not have any white on his face.  This calf has a reddish tint, some white underneath, but nothing on his face.  I'm thinking the wrong seamen got in her....but I don't know how else this calf would have a reddish color out of the black cow.  Either way, I think she's a stout one.  Wish she was a he!

Carpe Diem seems to pattern after the cow, I have seen several with no Hereford markings at all!
This isn't just some game that a bunch of guys get together and do on weekends... This is a legitimate industry, with real money, real gain, and real loss.

isnt carpe diem hetro for solid color? In that case it is possible for him to thow no white at all and say the dam has a white tip on the tail or white udder, she can throw a white belly pretty.

Yup Carpe Diem follows the cow. So if she doesn't have white on face its doubtful calf would.

I got a Carpe Diem heifer calf this year out of a red brockle cow that is 1/2 shorthorn, 1/4 sim, 1/4 red engus and the calf is a yellow color with a sizeable star at the top of its head and white rear legs.  Looks like the thickest, stoutest guernsey calf youve ever seen!  (lol)

I would say that it probably is a Carpe Diem calf cause it sure didn't get the bone from the cow!

He follows the cow.  Seen several solids out of him.

Good to know.  I thought we had screwed up somewhere in our breeding and records!

Also, solid looking calf you have! IMO Carpe Diem is pretty underrated....

idahoag, I really like that calf.  Do you have a full picture of the cow and the cow's breeding?  I am still contemplating my breeding decisions for 2013 and after seeing this little lady I am considering Carpe Diem.

Well, the cow is a crossbred cow (3/4 angus, 1/4 heinz 57 (probably a little limi, shorthorn, etc in her background).  I will see what I can do about getting a picture of her for you.

Thanks Idaho.  I would really love to see your cow as I believe it would help me in my decision.  I hope you resolve your milking issue from your other post.  If that cow can't raise a calf she will make a good hamburger ;)
