Yes they are both dead. We bought Carpe Diem semen the day he died. I wouldnt breed to Indian Outlaw because he was sick almost his whole life and no one is really sure if it is genetic or not.

I have not personally had any CD calves, but have seen some nice ones. I have used IO twice on the same cow and have had good results. The only downside I have had is that the first calf (steer) won't classify as a herf or a short. The cow is a red baldy sim/maine/herf so I was hoping to get a fakeford out of the deal but he was marked almost identical to IO. The second one was just born a week ago and is probably 85% white. At least he will most likely classify Shorthorn. I'm considering going back with CD or Cottonmouth this time to hopefully get a herf appearing steer next go. Any thoughts?

Not saying he doesn't work in the right situation, but Indian Outlaw had some serious structural issues, from the time he was just a calf.  Most of his health problems probably just stemmed from being hard doing, like most too straight ones.  Carpe Diem was much, much sounder - even though he can throw a little bigger, plainer one once in awhile, his lesser calves are at least good market cattle.  And yes, I've seen them both, more than once.

Cowsnsows, I'd expect better markings out of Cottonmouth than Carpe Diem.  Not to say Carpe Diem won't work, but you're just as likely to get a red baldie (not enough white for a Herf) as a good Hereford marked one out of the cow you described.
