I agree.

However, we have a full tube and and empty tube in the show box.  My daughter thinks it works so we pretend we gave the heifer some and all is well.

I used it on a couple of our heifers a few weeks ago..it worked on 1 but not so much on the other.  My previous experience was waste of money, now I think I'll try it again...

We give 40-50 3mg of Melatonin 7 days before we show and OH BOY does it work.

We do not give ace.  We did try ace 3 cc in mouth and my daughter told me she can really tell that he is druged up, I ask her why. She said he wobbles when he walks hehe

So we stick to the Melatonin.

Costco has it cheap 300 pills for 5.89

Do you give the melatonin for 7 days straight or just on day 7  before the show?

Stierwalt feeds the melatonin also and I think he said he starts 30 days out, I'll have to go back and check that.

We feed 40-50 3mg 2 times a day for 7 str8 days before the show.  you should see a differents after 4 days. durning this period you need to make sure you tie him up high for 4 hours a day.  I have found that doing this after a week the calf is calmer

PLEASE POST what happen to your steer or heifer after following these instruction

We use grow and shine on all our show calves which has melotonin it, not only does it help calm the calves down it also helps with hair growth, John Sullivan himself once told me you can get just as good results by giving your calf a slab of grass hay as giving a tube of calf calm all it is is a mental thing for your young shower thinking it helps.

I think it must depend on the calves because i have maybe only had a couple that it worked on but a heifer i showed this year was just nervous enough that she would try and watch the crowd while in the ring and this would cause her to dance. after giving her a tube she wouldn't worry as much and you could tell she just acted a little tired. if it does anything it makes them tired so that their reactions are slow.

I have had calf calm work on some calves and not work on others.  I usually feed meletonin in the week leading up to the show, and it does seem to help.  I feed the entire pill, but I have heard that if you crush the pills up it works better.  Can anyone confirm this?
