I have a cow that has a terrible udder, huge teats,  just plain ugly!  I'm tired of messing with it every time she calves, so I'm going to flush her.  Any suggestions on a clubby bull that throws really nice uddered females?  How are Eye Candy daughters as far as milk and udders?

Heat Wave's have nice tight little bags, but I wouldn't breed to him for maternal qualities. Heat Seeker's have nice udders and can make good females kind of a hit and miss deal though.

Not trying to be mean spirited here, but why would you flush that female? Is there something I am missing about her genetic package? I consider udders, feet and legs, structure, docility, and fleshing ease to be pass/fail traits. If they can't pass there, then I wouldn't spend the money to propagate her genetics. I would personally breed her for correction, and, once you get a good female, I would ship her.

If I were wanting to correct udders, I would use Leachman Right Time, EXT, RR 9440 Scotch Cap 1483, Bextor, or Great Plains. These are all angus bulls.

CAB, I guess I should've mentioned I believe this female is a Heat Wave, although I haven't had her DNA confirmed.  Her mother had a nice udder, and the other Heat Wave that I kept also has a very nice udder.  Who knows why hers went so terribly bad.
Goodnight, that's a very valid question, and thought it might be asked.  The reason I am flushing her is because she is very sound in every other way and is very easy to get settled.  She also has a very nice calf, even from the neighbors bull.  Also, if I'm not mistaken, udder and teat shape is very heritable from the bull side of the pedigree.  It's very easy to improve your udders, just by breeding to the right bull.  EXCEPT when it's my cow apparently.  :)  Anyway, it's worth a try to me.  If her heifers have terrible udders, they will bring as much per lb as the good uddered ones and I'll know not to keep any heifers for replacements.

Our best uddered cows are from some of the older genetics.  Total Play, Full Flush, Kadabra, Who Made Who and Ali all seem to work for us.  But really need to watch how you breed them for today's market, all have frame to them.

As long as you have a reason. I think the idea of full flush is a good one. We know those little TH bulls work well on full flush females. The opposite might be true, and you will pick up some maternal traits along the way.

Since she is a HW daughter he should stay away from any THC bulls.  Unless you want to test her first?

I don't know if this is in response to my post, but full flush is a TH negative bull. My point is that the TH carrier bulls (ala heatwave) work well on full flush daughters. Why wouldn't full flush work well on a heat wave daughter?

Thanks for your recommendations everyone!  I'll be checking these bulls out.  And I will definately be having this cow DNA'd AND check to see if she's a carrier before I flush her.
