I've been noticing in most shows that I've been to, the vast majority of the cattle are Charlais or Angus' and shorthorns are becoming more popular while you don't see very many Herfords or Limousins unless it's a breed show. Is it just my area or is this a general trend everywhere?

It is most everywhere. If you want to win it is hard not to have a little Maine or shorthorn in the calf. (alot of clubby bulls have one or the other or both influences) Charlais seem to be popular producing slick shear steers. And Angus is a popular base. Though Angus Simmental x is also really popular for a base. Personally I like a angusXsimmental cow. Then you can put a clubby type bull on them for show. You will get alot of different opinions mine is definitely not the only one. There are alot of very knowledgeable people on this site.

If you come to this part of the world in Texas it's all brahman x and then all your exotics are char x besides probably 20%

It's regional a lot but charolais are trending up pretty much anywhere

I've actually noticed a lot more Herefords in the show circuits; whether PB, or often out of a commercial Hereford and a clubby bull.
