Cervical tear??

Over the past weekend, the guy renting a neighboring field to my property put in about 8 bulls without our knowledge.  My kiddo's show heifer happenned to be in heat.  After the bulls went through 3 barb wire fences, jumped a powder river gate, and went through another divider in the corrals, they gang raped the poor heifer.  When we got home and realized what happened, it looked like something got shot out in the corrals.  Blood everywhere. Not dribbles, I mean looked like bucket fulls thrown around.  Vet came out and did a look over, but no internal exam.  She believes her cervix may have been torn during the "incident".  Hope she should heal, but what are the chances it damaged her for future breeding?  We've had a lot of "accidents" over the years but not one that left the cow this banged up. 

I would personaly be more inclined to think it is a Vaginal Wall perforation. The cervix is very small, especially in hfrs, so to have it actually penetrated and torn would be hard to have happen. However, with mutiple bulls repeatedly making connections, the vaginal wall would become very irritated if not completely perfortated. If that is the case, there would be a very good chance for peritinitis to set in -- meaning she could very well have a raging internal infection soon, and some of these are deadly.

Watch her very close for the next 72 hours, monitor her temp to start with -- if it starts to spike -- then it is time to go in and have look -- be ready for the worst case scenario. DL may be able to further reiterate on this, but peritinitis is VERY serious, Sorry for your terrible luck -- I think somebody would be made aware of his mistake -- IE :Nieghbor bull owner"

Agree with Cowboy on this one.
I see at least a couple of small heifers every year at necropsy that have been bred by big aggressive bulls, penetrating the vaginal fornix, with ejaculation - and introduction of bacteria - into the abdominal cavity, causing a rip-roaring peritonitis, leading to death.

Thanks everyone.  I will watch a little more closely.  The kids have a show with her the weekend after next.  I gave her a dose of Hex the other night and will most likely give her some more.  It's been over 3 full days and she seems to be walking OK, and eating well.  Still a little blood / discharge.
I really appreciate the info.  The internal bleeding / bacterial infection idea just fries me and scares me to death.  Not to mention the escape bulls are some of the most homeliest, inbred, bastards in the county.  I've already had words with the owner.  My kids have way too much time and $ into this girl.

I would suspect a torn vagina before cervix.. Cervix is tough as all get out,  have had some experience there,  usually torn during birth process,  Would suspect it will heal, time has a way.  When time comes a I the heifer and you will learn a lot.

Yes Lute is already in the fridge.  Going to wait until after our show next week.  I hope to get some good pics at the show so I can do some asking on AI breeding suggestions for her.  Thanks again everyone
