I saw the cattle and the chi steer was the man.  He was the stoutest calf but still very balanced. He was the only one that could get out and go.

Congratulations to the Kelley's, we show against them a lot and they are a hard working family that gets it done in the show ring..

In other words, their kids don't just sit on the showbox and wait till their calves are ready to show.

Also, congrats to the owners of Solid Gold... What a year!!

Agree on the chi.  The char missed his track by a good bit.

I think the kid that had the chi not only had the best calf but the best showman in the barn. I saw the family getting that calf ready and the brother that had him ready did as good as a guy could get.  That was one great calf. I feel for that family cuz they should been the champ.

Lets once again congratulate those kiddos who didn't make the sale.  There were a lot of very good steers that got the gate and a lot of very hard working kiddos that went home without a brand.

Yep...a lot of good calves got sent home, and there were a lot of good ones left standing in the drive.  Not because Hoge did anything wrong picking them, because there were just that many good ones.  I think Hoge found the steer that worked best for him, and in my opinion was the one that worked best to.  Thats not taking anything away from the others.  I thought the Chi was really nice also, also liked the AOB a lot, though I know a lot of people probably didnt, I also thought the Hereford was really good, and the Gert was a damn good steer to in my opinion.  There were a lot of good steers to choose from, he had to find the one that worked best for him.  I know Hoge and I think a lot alike on the steers, with product being pretty much the most important thing for us.  I know a lot of people didnt think the Char moved good enough to win it.  But I think he moved perfectly fine for a finished steer ready to head to the kill floor, combine that he had some look to him, and a ton of product, I think he was the combination steer to win it in my opinion.  But that doesnt take away from any of the others all really good, and a lot of really good steers that were probably "good enough to win" that didnt even make sale in some of those tougher classes.  Thats just where this game has gone.  There are so many good ones showing now, that a lot of times its just the judges personal preference that decides the winner.  Someone else could go out there and make a strong argument for another steer, but that doesnt necessarily negate the judges argument for the one he picked.
Again, congrats to all the winners, and more so to all the exhibitors, there was a barn full of good steers there.
