Out of curiosity, what is the Diamond/Frimley link?

Out of curiosity, what is the Diamond/Frimley link?

There is actually a three herd link Newbiggon was my great grand father's herd and now my Aunt and Uncle, Frimley was my grandparent's the herd name will be used by Ryan Stephenson my cousin's son. Diamond is our family's herd.  Below is the history of our program which dad wrote for our website.

In 1907, Jasper Stephenson moved to Cayley, Alberta from Northumberland, England where his family had Shorthorn cattle.  Jasper started a purebred Shorthorn herd in 1918 called Newbiggon.  In 1965 his son Herb started the Frimley herd.  Frimley was the name of town in England where Herb met his wife Billie during the 2nd World War.  The original foundation cow was Braeside Rosy Dawn.  There are descendants of Rosy Dawn in the herd today.  Other foundation females were added from Bill Pethybridge (Susan’s), Cecil Staples Diamond herd (May’s, Dottie’s, Belle’s), Winalot (Maid’s and Mae’s) Rothney (Clippers, Beauty’s and Simplicity’s) and Newbiggon (Baroness and Secret’s).

In 1972 Herb’s son in law and daughter Gary and Terry Carter imported Mandalong Super Flag, Mandalong Royal Ferrari, and two Mandalong Roany cows from Australia to add to their Newbiggon herd.  (Terry and Gary had taken over the Newbiggon herd name).  These bloodlines were concentrated in the herd for several years and still used today.

In 1976 when Cecil Staples dispersed the original Diamond herd that had been located at Bindloss, Alberta Dan Stephenson obtained several females.  Dan had been working with Cecil on shares for couple of years prior to the dispersal.  The Diamond herd was noted for structural soundness easy fleshing and above average size for the times.  There was Thomas breeding through two herd sires Thomas Max 11Z and Thomas Leader 13C.  Dan also acquired the Diamond herd name and the Double Diamond brand.

Any twins out of the Squis daughter? She looks wonderful.

I am happy to report Tempting is not following is Squiz's footsteps she has only had singles.  I have 3 incredible Prophecy 21P daughters out of her.  The two year old has a very good bull calf and the yearling and the heifer calf are the top of their contemporary groups!

Those are some beutifull cows-Id like to see some from behind. Is the Red Alta Cedar Ultimate bull-the older bull who now is deceased but was available down here? I think his daughter pictured looks like the type that is becoming popular with the inevititable change in the breed. As it moves towards a more functional look-which has come about certainly in part because of the calving ease (or lack of) issues :percieved ,documented or otherwise. O0

Best cow I have goes back to Alta Cedar Ultimate 130K.  Her January YY Cartwright sired bull calf is exceptional.

We put in a couple of Alta Cedar Ultimate 130K embryos this year. The donor dam was a half sister to Diamond Helena Dottie so hoping they are pregnancies!

Meanwhile in Australia here is a daughter of Northern Legend 3N at a junior show. Just a little bit exciteable (lol)

Several years ago, I sold a set of embryos to Spry's Shorthorns in Australia. Included in this shipment were several Alta Cedar Ultimate 130K embryos from our donor HC Melba Niam 98H. Here is one of the females they got from this mating. She produced their high selling bull at $16,000 two or three years ago.

I have always liked Ultimate offspring. I still have a few straws of semen and am thinking of flushing to him again.

I have also attached a picture of Ultimate that I snapped on a visit to Muridale a few years ago as well. This picture was taken when he was 8 years of age after he had come in from a summer breeding cows. He was a pretty amazing bull!

I thought I would post a picture of my little cousin Ewan's first show heifer Abbey (short for Newbiggon Abracadabra Susan 49A) at just under 2 months.  She is by Newbiggon Young Flag 52Y (Mandalong Superflag x Diamond Mystical Susan 30M) and out of Newbiggon Winsome Susan 3W (Northern Legend 3N x Diamond Mystical Susan 30M).
